Anyone who knows electrical cabling should know what a twisted pair is. It is a way of reducing electrical noise and crosstalk from neighbouring cables. Used primarily in network and analogue phone cables, what I didn't know was that it was invented by Alexander Graham Bell! Although I think nature had this sussed a long time ago lol Taken in my second home of Hillock Wood, Buckinghamshire.

First seen at Stratford station, it was moved here to Maryland station when redevelopment took place.

I understand that the road layout at Maryland is to be altered shortly, so perhaps the clock may move again?

I like this clock! Given a gentle smudging treatment.

This image just reminds me of my life these days

My life is kind of upside down

What is the real life

The one I live chatting with Mark on the other side of the huuuuuge pond or the one I live where I can actually touch things

And then I came to think of our kids living in this world

This world of facebook, instagram, txting, snapchat and you name it

I call it the parallell life

The life you live chatting with the world

Being social

Being happy

Pretending being happy

And then feeling lonely

Because it's only you and your pc or phone

Cabled to the world like it was an umbilical cord

I feel sorrow for this generation

So much loneliness they need to deal with

Frustration over not meeting anyone they can touch

Love

I know my parallell life will end

It has already ended

And started again

And it will end again

But I sure feel the frustration

Which life do I want to live

Of course I want the real life

But in the meantime I say thank you to the love I have in my parallell life

I can at least choose

Many in our kids generation can't choose

That's really sad

What a struggle

I've seen the Greenfinches around the place quite a few times now, so I think there must be a nest nearby. I saw this one perched on the phone cable but unhelpfully it was facing the other way. For once my luck was in. When the bird saw me it turned round to have better look at me. At the same time there was a blink of sun so I was able to shoot a few frames of which this is the best.

I believe this was a feed store in its past life. You can see the old climbing rungs/steps on the telephone pole.

As we left Gallanch Estate and returned each day, we passed by this old, decrepit building. It was dated 1955. We inquired of our host--what is this building doing out in the country, by the sea, on the lane to your home? It was the connection spot for the first transatlantic phone cable! It was laid between Oban, Scotland, and Clarenville, Newfoundland in 1955-56, and inaugurated September 25, 1956. The line was retired in 1978, and the building is abandoned. Quite different times from the few seconds it takes to connect, on a cell phone, from the streets of Oban to family in the states.

A close call with the phone cables, don't know if the avoidance sensors would have picked up on them!

Two thin cables (possibly phone cables?) extended along the side of an old bluestone cottage along Fullarton Road, before connecting to the nearby stobie pole.

This isn't much of shot, but it's pure history now. Shot from the porch of the Stockton Tower, as four second-generation units of three GP30s and a GP35 power an eastbound across the SP and WP (in the distance) mainlines. The connecting tracks to both railroads are visible on the right side of the photograph. At the time there was no through connection to the north. The units, from the rear are: 3228, 3276, 3380 (the GP35) and 3272. Photo angles at Stockton Tower toward the east were cluttered with poles set close to the tracks, and from the tower phone cables were also an issue. This was a late afternoon shot based on the shadows. A project has begun to grade-separate this crossing, now a single set of tracks since the WP and SP lines have been combined. This will alleviate rail and Stockton street congestion from waiting trains on both the UP and BNSF tracks. The UP tracks also support ACE commuter trains between Stockton and the South Bay.

It seems a bit early for them to gather before heading south so it must be just a favoured resting place.

A moderate compressed shot of the utility pole line down an alley just north of Lakeside Park in my home town of Fort Wayne, Indiana. All the wires leading to the customers are for power, phone, cable tv, and fios. This was one of two neighborhoods that got the last upgrades for our whole city.

In this shot you can see the many upgrades that have occurred with newer transformers, lights, insulators, and other hardware. Also are a lot of the older poles that most likely date back to the 1920's including the older hardware. You can see in large view how many of the wooden pins holding the insulators have failed, leaving the wires laying on the crossarms. This utility pole line was completely upgraded to a single power circuit line about a year after taking this shot.

This here link shows how the pole line looks today.

www.google.com/maps/@41.0904803,-85.12133,3a,75y,359.54h,...

Fort Wayne was one of those few cities where many decades ago had a choice of two electric utilities, Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) and City Light and Power (CL&P). On March 1, 1975 that would all change when CL&P was leased to I&M for 35 years.

At first I&M slowly started to upgrade the power grid doing away with the old CL&P lines while upgrading their own lines. Then about 25 years ago I&M got more aggressive about the upgrading and that progressed even faster as the lease was getting nearer. I&M would eventually become the exclusive electric service provider for Fort Wayne after the lease was up in February 28, 2010.

On the old poles the I&M lines were up on the top crossarms while the CL&P lines would be on the bottom crossarms. Sometimes down an alley the I&M poles would be on one side with the CL&P poles on the other side.

Nothing much to say about this - still in Le Grand Bourg, from the same roll as the previous pic, taken with the Agifold Series II. Still, it's a pretty litle row, with the flower boxes outside - and no wretched overhead power or phone cables in sight!

Resident here locally, often seen on a post like today, all hunched over, calling. It hunts from perches on trees, power poles, phone cables, and fence posts near wet areas in the coastal lowlands and wider river valleys.

Hi everyone and hope all are well. Tonight I was going through some of my images which I haven't done in a while. I took this last year on New Years Eve down in Cold Springs N.Y. with the Hudson River in the background. Wanted to give it a Nostalgic old fashioned feel. I posted something similar last year but my son said it needed color so i gave it texture and balanced the color to bring out the dusk sky and and green cliffs out.

This image helped me t think back to when Christmas was simple,no computers, cell phones, cable TV,video games,I-Pads,etc... Sleigh rides, snow ball fights, hot cocoa were a must and going to see Santa at the local H.L. Greens located in down town Yonkers,N.Y. were a must! Family and friends getting together for a meal that mom took all day and the night before to make,Dad playing the harmonica, kids excited and of course the simplest of gifts! Those are the Christmas's I remember simple yet perfect in it's own sense. So figured its 21 days till Christmas why not get things started!

Lazy K Motel, 1501 East 1st Street, Ogallala, Nebraska. This motel is just on the outskirts of town, and has been in business since 1956.

The City cleared out some branches on the cherry trees in front of our balcony. yes a better view of the street. Now if they only could bury the power and phone cables too. Though that would affect the squirrels who use them as a highway.

There is something almost unique about this street in Durham, apart from the fact that I managed to capture it looking so quiet. Unusually, very unusually, there are no wheelies bins, no electric or phone cables strung across the road, no TV aerials, no satellite dishes, no road signs, no double-yellow parking lines and no vehicles. Even the street lamps fit in with the period feel of the buildings! How rare is that?

Some of the buildings in Durham's North Bailey date back to the 17th century, so the street represents architectural changes throughout the last 300 years.

There are also several buildings and sites associated with Durham University, including Hatfield College and the independent St Chad's College.

I was allowed off the island today in order to take my car to a Llandudno Junction garage for a service. So, with two spare hours, a walk to Conwy was in order.

Conwy Castle was built between 1283 and 1289 during King Edward I's second campaign in North Wales in order to keep us lot under control.

[Wales's contrversial loss at the Rugby World Cup was not the reason for my absence. On that day, workmen working on the road outside our house managed to sever our phone cable - no internet until now.

France did really well to give the All Blacks a game in the final - but congratulations to any Kiwis that happen to stumble upon my stream.]
