Believed to be the biggest in the Ilocos region, the 19th-century tabacalera in Currimao, Ilocos Norte is a historical reminder of the infamous Tobacco Monopoly that was enforced in the region. Constructed in 1869, it was once used as a warehouse for native products, particularly tobacco, and marked Currimao's prime as a port town.

With proper restoration and development, the site can still become a promising tourist destination. There are already two prominent resorts nearby, Sitio Remedios (owned by Dr. Joven Cuanang) and Playa Tropical.
