Apparitions are often confused with hauntings. The difference is that apparitions are "live" consciousness and hauntings are "recordings."

With this instalment I found myself working with and allowing a simpler statement than the first 3 "Brocades". The movement along them has to breathe.

I also wanted the complex Pano-Sabotage markers to be very visible.

A loving parting gift as I step back again, somewhat, for the Summer and a season of painting outdoors.

I thought it would be a good way to say, "a bientot" by letting loose entirely with pure artistic expression after a series of such serious intent. This particular image was built up from 4 of the "Once Upon a Time" images that were posted, all subjected to the process I call "Extreme Mirroring" after the basic function of mirroring in my main software program. Experimenting and playing with it with abandon I discovered a very powerful potential for image making.

The last of the "Brocades" series which was created and mostly posted in February, 2018. This straggler was put off and put off for other pressing concerns this year and I've finally gotten 'round to putting it up.

The "Brocade" process is a time-intensive, improvisational, heuristic process and one never knows how it's going to turn out until the moment when you know it's time to stop. It can take anywhere from 4 to 7 hours to put one of these together. The layering of translucencies makes for a very rich visual world and exponentially multiplies the interactions and relationships among the elements, which are all pano-sabotaged photographs, layered and layered and layered over top of the other.

Music Link: "Hopopono" - GoGoPenguin. Paul Boudreau and I have a great musical connection, among other things and we often expose each other to things that we find wonderful. I asked him to come up with a complementary piece of music for this image. "Hopopono" ( which is a Hawaiian healing ritual ) was his offering. It's a beautiful selection. Thanks, Paul !!!

Created for and featured in "The Kreative People" Group's Spring Gallery retrospective of my work.

Taking the "stellated extreme mirroring" technique further out by moving the image into asymmetry. The natural tendency when working with geometry is to go symmetrical. It seems like the right thing to do. Here I decided, as with Pano-Sabotage, to break the rules and give the form more life by making it's composition less regimented.

Every element is from a Pano-Sabotaged image. My goal with PS is to take it as far into Art as I can, even to the point of the medium almost losing it's identifying markers. One always has to see how far one can go.

The continuation of a series of 8 "Brocade" images exploring the use of Pano-Sabotage in extremely complex visual statements.

My personal goal as an artist is to push beyond what I've done myself and to explore new territory in various media and styles. It's virtually impossible for me to sit still on one thing forever. Eventually, when I feel that I've done all I can with a style or medium, I move on. It's not unusual to come back to these places with fresh views though, so I see things more as a spiral than a straight line.

Eight "Brocades" were created in the earliest part of 2018. Five have been posted to Flickr up to this point. Number 6 here picks up where 1 - 5 left off.

In direct contrast to the 14 previous "straight" Pano-Sabotage images, the "Brocades" are at the further end of the Pano spectrum for their intense complexity both in terms of the image and the complicated layers that were build up to compose them. These images ARE heavily processed and are an exploration of how far the Pano-Sabotage medium might be pushed and still retain it's identification as a "Pano" piece. Each plane or facet in the larger image was a Pano-Sabotage piece subjected to extreme, stellated mirroring and processing.

These last "Brocades were brought out to be part of the "PANO-Vision" group's "The PANO to the Metal" Contest", where members are asked to experiment with the medium to the furthest extremes that they could muster while retaining some identification with Pano-Sabotage imagery. The contest ran from June 5 to June 31, 2018.

What is it? I was in the car wash and just took a few shots from inside my car of the rollers going over it and the daylit exit. Nothing more, nothing less

First of a series of 8 in a set that takes exclusively Pano-Sabotage imagery into extreme mirroring.

The visual complexity of the foliage and branches of the mostly natural elements, along with the complex mirror shapes makes for a very ornate statements in this series. At this time of year I seem to often end up doing things that are purely or largely abstract. I also wanted to take, what I call, "X-Stream Mirroring" as far as I could go ( for now ). The results made my think of the complex brocades that frame Tibetan Buddhist Thangka paintings. Hence the "Brocade" name.

It's always been my goal to take Pano-Sabotage as far into art making as I can. I love visually complex work and thought I'd "pull out the stops" for this series. Following these 8 it's likely that I'll go in completely the opposite direction, exploring Pano-Sabotage in extremely simple forms.

Number 7 in a series of images where I took exclusively Pano-Sabotaged images and subjected them to extreme mirroring in Affinity. The more points you ad, the more circular the images get in the mirroring process. Eventually these multi-point mirrors become "Stellated", like stars. I was surprised by this and decided to create a series based on the stellation - pushing Pano-Sabotage so far that it's virtually unrecognizable.

It was nearing sundown and the wind was strong coming from the delta and blowing the irrigation into clouds. Normally you don’t see irrigation this time of year and the land would be very wet from days of heavy rain. The fields would be very muddy or even flooded. We are in the worst drought in 1,200 years. Taken just south of UC Davis in Solano County CA.

Here, in the second of the "Brocade" series, which uses Pano-Sabotage images for all of it's elements, I thought to include Pano-Sabotage self-portrait experiments from the Summer of 2017. I also sought to further play with the dynamic push-pull of symmetry and asymmetry. These images are VERY symmetrical but often achieve that by using a lot of asymmetry. This has been an interest of mine since studying the work of American Abstract Expressionist, Barnett Newman's work when I was at art school.

For a detailed analysis of Newman's use of and play with symmetry / asymmetry, see Thomas Hess's monograph on Newman ( Barnett Newman, MoMA ). He uses the term "Secret Symmetry". I like that idea.
