BB13 was one of the 'scenic' giant oil storage tanks that dominated this part of Sydney harbour for decades thanks to BP. Anyway, we finally got rid of BP though I note they still operate petrol stations around Sydney - so maybe we didn't, lol.

Sometimes you need to re-imagine a photo that should never have been published in color in the first place. This is one of those!
BNSF 3855 leads 121 petroleum coke loads over Fish Creek as it heads west. The unit coke train had originated in Helena Montana and was to be exported through the Roberts bank terminal.
The petroleum coke is a by-product from oil refining.
Continuing with my apparent EMD widecab obsession, relatively new CN SD75IACC DC-AC conversion 8307 is leading train U700 south through Paxton. U700 is an as-needed train of Petcoke originating from BP's Whiting, Indiana refinery destine for Convent, Louisiana, presumably for export. To my understanding, Petroleum Coke or "Petcoke" is a product made from the left-overs of petroleum refining. Depending on the grade, it can be used either for fuel or as a carbon source in steel (metallurgic coke).
A draw for me on CN's former Illinois Central Mainline of Mid-America is the diversity of trains compared to other nearby mainlines. Manifest, double stacks, autos, crude oil, grain, taconite, and Petcoke are some of the commodities I've shot out here. Heck, I've even seen a unit train of diesel fuel. But until this day, the Petcoke trains were always elusive for me. So when I saw this train with a newer rebuild leading, I took the bait.

On Saturday, I felt like taking a little photo cruise. I decided to drive up thru Oil Creek State Park. Stopped by the train station and snapped a few pics.
Shortly after departing their yard in Clover Bar, a CP transfer with locos 2233 and 3131 prepares to push back into an industry with a cut of tank cars. I had hoped that they would come a little closer before reversing back, but this will have to do.
The street I was standing on was very aptly named Petroleum Way, considering the industry around here. I didn't hang around too long as a security guard seemed very interested in what I could be up to.

The Redding Local works one of its handful of customers Valley Pacific Petroleum on a cold and cloudy day. Snow still covers the peak tucked away in the background as a reminder of the harsh winter that had come through last season. A worker also appears in the background posing for the camera.
This is an attempt at restoring a pretty far gone colour slide. Not only was the original over-exposed, but the slide has degraded over the years with what appears to be fungal growth across a lot of its surface.

....some things do just fine.
I have no roots. my father was a petroleum engineer and we moved every two years. I think my mother and my sister suffered the most.
I didn't realize that I was rootless, but when my shrink told me, years ago, i had one of those "aha" moments with better understanding.
my friend sati sent the tilandsias; air plants [the grassy ones]...rootless. they are doing just fine.
