Driveways and your gates are the first things that people notice when they enter your house. You sure would like them to be perfect. Driveway gates are effective means to preserve the security of your property. Commonly you do not find these gates but in houses where there is a provision for them, those houses stand out the most among others.
So.................the smell in our flat that we thought was a leaky pipe in our laundry room was actually a dead, decomposing rat. Aren't we just the lucky buggers? We especially like how it chose to die on an exposed bit of flooring insulation so even if we could go into our laundry room for more than a minute without vomiting we can't exactly just scoop it up and chuck it in the bin. Anyone for rat soup?

A few friends of mine recently put a hardcore band together. Got a call from my buddy Calvin last night wondering if I wanted to do some promo pics for them at their practice space. At the time they still hadn't decided on a band name, but after the shoot we had all decided Pest Control was the name to go with. I didn't have any lights with me, so we ended up using two halogen lamps. I'm so surprised with the result of these group shots despite how sketchy the lighting setup was.

I first saw this car, where it is, in Fowler, IN, ohhh maybe a year ago. On that day it was covered in snow and it was too dark. I made a mental note to try again another day. So, when I was in the area today, I searched this car out again, to get the pictures here.

The small little ants love moist places such as kitchens and pantries. Dark and damp locations are also ideal spots. So the mini-mall restaurant was the best place to set up a fort. Inside and out having perfect conditions for the black, sugar and pavements ants. The restaurant owner needed to do a thorough investigation of the restaurant including the exterior. Gather all data and decide if this big headache was worth it to try and take care of. Or was it time to make that call for an experienced pest control technician to save the day.

This a Hornets nest I was called out to remove, as it was built over the doorway of a childs play room.
Hornets unfortunetly have a bit of a fearsome reputation and I think it's rather undeserved, when compared to their much more agressive smaller cousins, the common wasp.
Many wasps will readily sting, even for approaching their nests, whereas hornets are generally much more placid and largely ignorant of anyone near their nests.
I took photos of this one, as it's very unusual to see the cell structure inside the nest, without physically breaking through the outer skin of the nest, which is made from a mixture of chewed dead wood (typically from untreated sheds and fencepanels) and saliva.
If you look carefully, you can see tiny eggs glued into the cells, which will grow into larvae, then full adults.
Unlike bees nests, wasps and hornets do not ever produce honey - the cell structure is only ever used as a nursery chamber for future generations.
It's not always easy to distinguish a hornets nest form a wasps nest without seeing the hosts, but the outer skin of a hornets nest is usually more yellow than the typical grey of a wasps nest.
Size is no indication either - the largest wasps nest ever found was discovered in a barn in New Zealand and measured approximately 12 feet by 6 feet!

Spray foam insulation comes with numerous benefits. As it turns out, those advantages are also quite diverse. It would be easy to focus strictly on the fact that spray foam insulation is easy to use and install in your home.
Remove loose or popped nails with a cat's paw or pry bar. Protect the board surface with a wide putty knife. Drive long deck screws in place of the nails. Drill pilot holes and use additional screws if necessary.
Managing yellowjackets and paper wasps starts with early detection and rapid response. Walking the perimeter of your house or a building you manage starting in June can help you to identify the beginnings of a stinging insect nest. These can be knocked down with a strong stream of water or a long pole. Ideally this work should be completed at night when all colony members are on the nest. Wear thick, loose clothing and gloves to prevent stings. Stomp the nest when it hits the ground to kill colony members. Clothing or gear that is worn into the woods can be treated with permethrin to provide some protection against ticks. Unlike repellants that prevent ticks from finding you, permethrin is an acaricide that kills ticks after exposure. The molecules bind to clothing material, but are removed after 6 or fewer washes in a washing machine. Professional treatments may last up to 70 washes. FOLLOW LABEL INSTRUCTIONS: permethrin should NOT be applied while clothing is being worn.

Dark-Eyed Fruit Flies are larger and darker in body/eye color compared to Red-Eyed Fruit Flies.
