Peru Day 4 was magic. We left Cusco for a 4-hour ride into the mountains, then began our trek to Choquequirao. We tasted papa rellena, traded with locals, learned about Pachamama, and joined a sacred offering ceremony.

The hike through canyons and jungle was wild literally! We saw horses, shared stories, and ended the day in a lodge deep in the Andes with mangoes, a cold swim, and a full moon.

We tried street food at Mercado San Blas, ran from a hailstorm, made friends with locals and puppies, and ended the day riding horses to ancient ruins.

Day 3 in Peru was unforgettable! We rode quads through mud, visited stunning high-altitude lagoons, and swam under the Andes sun. It was Olive’s birthday, and this wild ride turned out to be the perfect celebration.

We also stopped at a chocolate factory and ended the day at Peru’s famous salt flats, where we floated in saltwater and learned how locals harvest it.

After days on the trail, we began our hike back tired, reflective, and full of memories. Olive reminded Mikey it was his birthday. What followed? A cake surprise at 10,000 feet, laughter in two languages, and a group celebration no one will forget.

Mikey gifted each friend a wooden St. Francis cross. Our guide handed out “I Survived Choquequirao” shirts.

That night, Olive and Mikey stayed behind in a mountain cabin. Beer. Hot showers. Sunset. Silence. A sweet goodbye.

We didn’t expect fire pits, guinea pig, and full-blown dancing parades on Day 1 in Cusco!

Before starting our jungle trek to Machu Picchu, we tried a traditional local dish, guinea pig (Olive’s first time). Then our guide brought us to a massive street festival: Bajada de Reyes, filled with fire, drums, color, and celebration.

We joined the parade, danced with locals, and ended with late-night food under the stars.
