Valley de la Luna isn’t actually a valley at all, but a maze of canyons and giant spires. The formations, composed mainly of clay and sandstone, were created by the persistent erosion of mountains by the area’s strong winds and rains.

Under rich, relentless skies

I've been setting highs

I felt you walk right through me

You're the thing that I invoke

My all persistent goal

Sent to make me queazy

And oh, it's hard now

With time, it works out

To be human is to love

Even when it gets too much

I'm not ready to give up

“People like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.” – Albert Einstein.

While this may seem like a tender moment between this bull and cow bison, he was in the mood and she definitely was not! He kept nudging her with his head while she generally ignored him. He was persistent (and obnoxious!) enough to where she got up and tried to walk away. When she did he followed closely, continuing his advances. She grew tired of him and laid back down. We watched for a good 10 to 15 minutes admiring both of their strong wills - his trying and her denying!

Our persistent marine layer has deposited dew drops on this lovely decorative dahlia, making it even more beautiful. It is growing in a pot just outside the dining room window.

Happy Wednesday! Take care and stay safe.

Thanks for stopping by and for all of your support -- I deeply appreciate it.

Searching for Large Heath in far-from-ideal conditions on a squelchy peat bog next to Loch Maree in Wester Ross… No sign of a butterfly in the drizzle and wind; no surprise there. But the consolation prize was the dramatic sight of Slioch, one of Scotland's Munros (a mountain over 3,000 ft (910 m) high), which dominates the eastern end of the loch, as it dipped in and out of the low clouds.

The search was abandoned with the arrival of yet another band of persistent rain!

I'll just leave it here. The woodpecker tapped for a long time.

This hungry squirrel in my garden, didn't get the memo that the cone was there to prevent it from getting to the bird seed, not to use it as a comfy seat while having a feast, making a mess lol!

Best viewed large.

Happy new week my friends =)

He was been stalked by a female and he wasn't sure he was thrilled about it. He was playing hard to get if nothing else. She was persistent and he was good at giving her the cold shoulder. Was an entertaining bit of time watching the two of them.

The other German-language trivial names exist or existed for the chess flower: Fritillariablum, Kiewitsei (Unterweser), Kiwitzei, Kukukstulpe (Pomeranian) and Perlhuhntulpe (Pomeranian).

The checkered flower is highly endangered in Germany and is considered to be particularly protected in the individual federal states according to the Federal Species Protection Ordinance (BArtSchV) as well as in Austria. In 1993 she was chosen as flower of the year. It is mainly threatened by the destruction of its natural habitats in damp and wet meadows, alluvial forests and flood plains of rivers (river floodplains). Furthermore, the persistent eutrophication of the soil through fertilizers has a causal effect on stocks. In Austria, the chess flower is considered to be in danger of extinction. It has been fully protected in Switzerland since 2000.

Uncommon migrant. Note the faint yellow coloration on his breast.

Some trees seem attractive year after year to these critters. This particular tree located in my rear yard has hosted spring revisits for many years. Also, evidence exists to suggest the running sap also provides a food source to early spring butterflies (Mourning Cloak, Eastern Comma, etc) that do not sip nectar and early arrival hummingbirds.

Golden Plover persistent and somewhat special whistling tones are very characteristic, and can be heard over long distances. Everyone who has walked in the mountains during the summer in Norway has probably become acquainted with the Golden Plover. At least they have heard the monotonous sound, if they have not seen the bird itself.

In Norway, Golden Plover is found almost all over the country in higher-lying areas. It is quite shy and it usually do not get closer than 20-30 meters.

Even though the Golden Plover is a wading bird, it is not often you see it out in the water in search of food. It is more associated with dry mountains moors, where it also nests. When it gets to cold in Norway, the Golden Plover migrate to Southern and Western Europe.

Not the sharpest of shots but I am a little out of practice! Plus it was shot through the back door.

But I love the squirrels that frequent the garden. We can have up to 7 at any one time. Plus lots of different birds and a couple of very persistent cats!

We are trying everything possible to keep them out as we don't put out bird food to create a smorgasbord for the felines, but so far they have navigated spikes, netting and strategically placed prickly stuff.

I guess that one way or another, nature will do what it pleases.

persistent internet issues keep plaguing my home. The Tech said it may continue until they can check out the whole neighborhood.

I might be on and off Flickr during this time.

I spotted this rainbow as I headed home from Baton Rouge last month. I kept watching it for the whole half hour driving time and couldn't find a good spot to pull over until I was a couple of miles from my house. Even after stopping and snapping a few, I could still see it through the trees at my house.

But that's not the important thing. The important thing is that this shot has a fence in it for Happy Fence Friday... :)

Got to capture a somewhat rare blue ice phenomenon in the Straits of Mackinac in Northern Michigan.

The blue ice phenomenon was caused by conditions that created dense, bubble-free ice, which absorbs longer wavelengths of light and reflects shorter, blue wavelengths. The specific cause was a persistent arctic cold snap that led to rapid ice formation, creating a large amount of dense ice. This process, also seen in glacial ice, makes the ice appear blue to the eye.

Ephesians 6:10-12

New International Version

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Persistent poor weather/light and uncooperative wildlife are combining to make an unhappy photographer. So another dip into images from Yellowstone proved good for the morale !!

This late day storm traveled over 100 miles from northwest of me over a 3 hour period and still had some punch left. Luckily, it passed south of me.

A shot taken a few years ago on the old Canon 5d. Many thanks to Mendhak who has confirmed this as Catbells and the Newlands Valley.

It's just nice to show that the weather in the lakes can be lovely, for an area famous for it's persistent rain!

Nothing can withstand the ocean. It is patient and persistent. Sooner or later, it will go over you, under you, or through you.

This rock reminds me of a fallen tree lying in the forest, continuing to support all surrounding life, and slowly giving itself back to the forest in a beautiful surrender. The wise old rock has already journeyed through many eons.

Every so often, big waves come surging in. I’m standing well back from the edge of a crumbly cliff, apprehensive, watching the deafening turmoil below. The sea is going wild and baring her big white teeth. Only seagulls can frolic here.

Until today, I had not known about this particular arch. It’s somewhat hidden. I found it by following some footprints that made me curious. When I unexpectedly laid eyes on it, I think that for a moment, like in some kind of dream, I stepped into an experiential echo. The same awe I felt on discovering this arch has been repeating itself through countless generations of human coastal dwellers.

After persistent drought in Australia we had some of the worst bush fires in history starting in the summer of 2019. This carpeted the skies in thick smoke for many weeks. The skies where ruby red from the fires. The sunrise was so defused you can see it as a perfect red circle.
