A stencil parody of Salvador Dali's The Persistence of Memory (1931) that appeared on a concrete salb behind the Peace Center at Harvard and Silver, SE, Albuquerque, Dec. 9, 2008.
The Nikkorex Auto 35 was a consumer level leaf shutter SLR offered by Nikon in the early 60s. It was not particularly successful, though it did offer an innovative (for the time) automatic aperture feature.
In appearance it was very similar to the Pentina, but that’s about all they have in common. I enjoy restoring “parts” cameras, but some are more of a challenge than others. This one proved to be a real hair puller, and even by the time I got to 5 bodies I had managed no success, mostly due to the devilishly frustrating linkage between the body, mirror return, shutter, and meter/aperture interface.
The persistence is not so much about the tree or the rock behind, but more about my persistence. I took 14 exposures before I caught the light on the branches and the mountain behind just right. It is dark, but it isn't underexposed, damn it.
If I cease searching, then, woe is me, I am lost. That is how I look at it - keep going, keep going come what may.
Loki mentioned in passing one day that one of his relatives served in the Navy during WWII. I was scrutinizing this famous "kiss" photo taken on August 14, 1945 celebrating VJ day (victory over Japan) and when I looked closely, I realized that the sailor was a goldendoodle and hence most likely Loki's relative!! "Anchors aweigh my boys..."

One of Pace’s most critical strategic initiatives is to increase the persistence, retention and, ultimately, graduation rates of our undergraduate students. We have been on an interesting journey of discovery over recent years and now have a much better appreciation of the complexities of supporting students to persist.
