I've been working on this shot for 4 years now. I finally got lucky back in November. The first two attempts were slightly off and not in the position I wanted. Two other attempts got skunked with weather. Stoked to finally see it snugged up next to HD. Enjoy!

Has Mars rover Perseverance finally found proof that there is life on Mars? In recent audio transmissions there were strange munching sounds to be heard, frequently interrupted by "Mmmmmmmmm" sounds. And they seemed to come from Perseverance itself while it explored a new part of Candor Chasma. Or was it possible that Mars had its very own counterpart in Candyverse and that particular spot Perseverance was examining was a spot where both parallel universes interfered? And Perserverance had taken samples from Candor Chasma's Candyverse counterpart Caramel Chasma? The samples Perseverance would send to Earth later suggested the latter. Because the probe Perseverance had sent contained a jar full of vegan Dulce de leche. When the scientists at the NASA Mars 2020 mission headquarters opened the jar, the most delicious caramel smell filled the room. And the scientists decided to risk a self-experiment...

...which, as I can assure you, turned out all right. Just like my first attempt at cooking Dulce de leche at home ;) At first I thought about doing a caramel nest or another shape, then I thought caramel sauce would be nicer for the theme, because the delightful smell is strongest while the sauce is being cooked. But while I was looking for caramel sauce recipes, I also stumbled upon a few Dulce de leche recipes, and that's something I've wanted to make at home for ages. Since I couldn't decide which recipe I should use, I combined a few and started to improvise. And yes, that smell (and taste!)... yummylicious :) There are things that I like to taste, but not to smell – cheese, for instance. Of which I took a few shots today, because I wasn't sure about my Caramel Chasma image. But in the end I still preferred the image that illustrates the yummy smell.

What you see in the image are the remains of the Dulce de leche inside of the non-stick pot (strongly recommended for a sticky recipe like this) I've cooked it in. All that you see here is either the caramel cream or the pot itself. The image is another stacked one, made of 15 photos and combined in Helicon Focus (method A, radius 6, smoothing 4). Processed in DXO PhotoLab 4, Color Efex (Skylight filter, Color Contrast filter), and Luminar AI (Color Harmony). And, in case you are interested: ingredients used for the Dulce de leche were 200 g coconut sugar, 200 ml soy cream, one package (50 g) creamed coconut, ca. 70 g of vegan butter, bourbon vanilla extract and salt to taste.

HMM, Everyone, and I'll catch up with you a little later!

Aargau, Switzerland.

Years ago I spotted this animal slowly moving across a large boulder. I wondered if it was an arthropod, as it looked similar to tiny animal called a roly-poly or pill bug. Whatever the name, I waited for the critter to make it to the pinnacle of the rock face. "If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward."

So i finally made a shape for Kupra Kups that i think i may like, as a girl who loves a curvier shape anyway, i found it really hard to like the body, which really suprised me. However with a little perserverance, i resemble something i kinda love ♥

Four days of early starts in rather miserable weather but it all came good in the end. As I was leaveing Titchwell Marsh RSPB reserve I decided to check the marsh for a sign of barn owls, even though it was relatively late for them to be active. This felow was hunting at range, way too far for a decent shot but I decided to wait regardless and my perserverance has been rewarded.

Remembering the old times from afar...

Better days were had but still functioning wheel now a post.

I spent the last 5 days wandering around the woods of Northeast Pennsylvania hiking and shooting fall color since we were robbed of our Autumn in Washington State due to fires, drought, smoke and overall climate change devastation that is threatening to take all that we have in the PNW. But I had to have an Autumn. As some of you know, Fall is my thang:) I pretty much put all of my photography eggs into one Fall Color Basket. So, there was no way I was letting the apocalyptic weather in Washington take Fall from me. I had to hike up and down some of the steepest and rockiest and slipperiest terrains to get my fix. And my legs fell off around mile 5 on the "back up" the trail. But I persevered. So we will call this little Beauty, "Perseverance Falls" ~ Happy Waterfall Wednesday! (I told ya'll I'd be back:)

Stupa and prayer flags. Kathmandu, Nepal

......................................................................

The Tibetan word is Chorten, which means "the basis of offering".

Stupa is a symbol of enlightened mind, (the awakened mind, universal divinity) and the path to its realisation.

If you had to use just two words, the best definition I have seen is "Spiritual Monument"

The history-making rotorcraft has recently been negotiating some of the most hazardous terrain it’s encountered on the Red Planet.

NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter has completed its 50th flight on Mars. The first aircraft on another world reached the half-century mark on April 13, traveling over 1,057.09 feet (322.2 meters) in 145.7 seconds. The helicopter also achieved a new altitude record of 59 feet (18 meters) before alighting near the half-mile-wide (800-meter-wide) “Belva Crater.”

This image of NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter was taken at “Airfield D” by the Mastcam-Z instrument on the Perseverance rover on June 15, 2021, the 114th Martian day, or sol, of the mission. The rotorcraft completed its 50th flight on April 13, 2023.

Joseph's Coat rosebud against my mailbox post... in January.

I like the way this looks Large On Black

I'll try to catch up with all of my contacts when I can...things are a bit busy...

The Yellow Peace Rose budded the day we had night temps at freezing and I just knew it would ruin the buds, but when I looked out a few days later, this one was blooming and another limb has about six buds ready to go! Taught me a lesson! It takes a lot to put down something or someone strong!

Mars on October 4th 2020. Seeing was average, but improved a little as the night progressed. Sequence covers about 2 hours of rotation. IR742 (Infrared) filter was used for red channel and to create an artificial green channel for these images. The main feature visible on the planet is what looks like a check mark right in the center. The area in the "check mark" on the left is Sinus Meridiani and on the right is SInus Sabeaus. On the right side of the first two images is Syrtis Major at 2-3 o"clock. There is also some clouds to the right at 3:00 rotating out of view. Niliacus Lacus is rotating into view bottom left with Mare Erthyraeum top left. Also on he left side of the images coming into view are bluish/white clouds. Clouds are also visible on the northern hood. Meade 12" LX200, ZWO ASI174MM

With a bit of perserverance I managed to catch puffin in flight while carrying beak full of sand eels.

Great day out with Greystones Camera Club at Great Saltee Island

For some reason I struggled a lot with this image, just getting it level on the day was a nightmare. But I bit of perserverance paid off I think. Looking down the Cathedral from the main door to the organ. I wanted to get as much of this amazing roof in as possible.

After catching a long-bomb pass this wide receiver lost his shoe while pivoting for the run into a touchdown. He never broke his stride.

I've tried several times to get this shot only to have something be just a bit off--- too few flowers, too much motion blur, blah-blah-blah. On this morning things came together as I found near perfect conditions to come back with the image I sought. There was just enough breeze to require two exposures, one for sharp motionless fg flowers and a second for depth of field. An easy enough blend in post, some color balance work, and some luminosity mask work as well.

On a side note I'll be showing & hopefully selling some of my work at the Woodstock Farmer Market this coming Sunday. It'll be mostly small prints as I don't think many people come to a farmers market prepared to buy large & expensive prints. It should be a fun day no matter. In you find yourself in SE Portland feel free to come on by and say hello!

Rich in symbolism and regarded as a talisman of good luck and perseverance to the Japanese people. Making them a popular gift of encouragement.

They are typically made of papier-mâché.

Modelled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism. Each daruma design, (particularly the shape, colour, eyes and facial hair) have their own history and symbolic meaning dependent on area of make and artist.

Gold kanji on the front often reads fuku-iri, meaning bringing luck.

When purchased, the figure's eyes are both blank white. The owner selects a goal or wish and paints in the left eye of the figure's two eyes with Chinese or Japanese ink. Once the goal is achieved, the right eye is filled in.

The tradition is to keep the daruma for a year and burn it afterward to express gratitude and to release the Kami (divine spirit) that resides within it.

When in Japan, I had hoped to get to the Shorinzan Darumaji Temple in the city of Takasaki - purported to be the place of origin of these dolls in the 17th century.

Sadly it was not to be, but enjoyed seeing this large one in the foyer of our hotel in Tokyo.

NASA’s Perseverance rover has notched up a slew of firsts since touching down on Mars one year ago, on Feb. 18, 2021, and the six-wheeled scientist has other important accomplishments in store as it speeds toward its new destination and a new science campaign.

Perseverance also recently broke a record for the most distance driven by a Mars rover in a single day, traveling almost 1,050 feet (320 meters) on Feb. 14, 2022, the 351st Martian day, or sol, of the mission. And it performed the entire drive using AutoNav, the self-driving software that allows Perseverance to find its own path around rocks and other obstacles.

This is homage to George Bush, the all time king of following through on bad ideas.

Data received late Sept. 1 from NASA’s Perseverance rover indicate the team has achieved its goal of successfully coring a Mars rock. The initial images downlinked after the historic event show an intact sample present in the tube after coring. However, additional images taken after the arm completed sample acquisition were inconclusive due to poor sunlight conditions. Another round of images with better lighting will be taken before the sample processing continues. Here, the drill hole from Perseverance’s second sample-collection attempt can be seen, in this composite of two images taken on Sept. 1, by one of the rover’s navigation cameras.

Some places are just so captivating that you can't help coming back to explore again and again to find all the hidden gems it has to offer. Hours were spent bumping down dirt roads getting to know every crest and valley and then planning to get the perfect shot. So many variables had to be accounted for to bring this dream into reality and it surpassed every expectation I set for it. It almost seemed like Mother Nature rewarded my perserverance to witness such incredible beauty that night allowing for clear skies in late October. I almost didn't care that the thermometer read 10 degrees Farenheit

---

Many people will tell you milky way season ends in early Fall and that simply isn't true. I took this October 29th, and technically you can photograph the milky way all year. The "season" people refer to is when the pretty part of the galactic core is visible. Around early November the core dips below the horizon here in Oregon and we don't see its pretty self again until early February.

Happy Fence Friday!

Once I got Lightroom earlier this year, I started looking back at some of my shots which had previously only been processed using a free app on my Nexus tablet and giving them another go using the RAW files which had been gathering dust for a few months.

This view across to Side Pike and the Langdale Pikes from Lingmoor Fell jumped out as a prime candidate to be switched to mono. I think the lack of colour helps bring out the textures in the landscape a bit more, and I now much prefer this to the colour treatment. I'll leave the 'old' version in my stream for you to make up your own mind!

This shot always makes me think of the dedication in the front of Waiwright's Far Eastern Fells:

i've been in the hospital for the last 4 days - with raging high fever and horrible pain...i was diagnosed with both pneumonia and cellulitius . Cellulitus is a nasty bright red skin rash caused by a bacterial blood infection. i had 4 different antibiotics flowing through 7 different IVs (my veins kept blowing, rolling whatever they do)

so they let me come home today with orders for three days bedrest, lots more antibiotics, and then more bloodwork on monday when i see my doctor.

thanks for the flowers, gifts, cards, and visits.....i treasure them all.

i've missed my life and i've missed flickr. lots of catching up to do,

Exploring a local beach spot in the my city. I was surpised just how busy the location was that early on the in morning, not only was I competing with other photographers but morning swimmers (braver people then me swimming at -4 conditions). The shot wasn't all the inspiring due do conditions but, I hope perserverance paid off.

Another overlay.

A few of you seemed to like this one so I thought I'd upload it on its own.

Plus, I'm going to milk this pro account until it expires.

Which reminds me, I just realized, I won't have my stats anymore when it expires.

Poop.

I like my stats. ):

"-It was a strange feeling.

One she had not expected to have anytime soon.

For the longest time it had been out of sight, out of reach.

Just a tasteless dream that she would conjure up in her worst moments

to find her way back to the warmth of serenity.

-Sometimes she would lose herself in her memory,

struggling to find stories of a different time.

A time when things were opposite.

Smiles belonging to her peers, friends, family and herself

graced her mind with happier thoughts.

It was times like this that she was granted with another dose

of strength. perserverance. courage. and determination.

-When she heard the ring, the sound she had been waiting for,

the call she had been longing for, her breath caught.

It was hard to wrap her mind around something she thought would never come.

Her shoulders folded down in relief as a sigh escaped past her lips.

This was it.

This was her moment, her time, her freedom."

^ Poorly written, I know. But that came from my heart, and my own experience.

I want people to know, that no matter how far down in a rut you are,

no matter how hard life gets, no matter how much crap you have to go through

or deal with, freedom will always be there for you.

Things will get better. If it takes a week, a month, a year or two.

There is only one way to go from down, and that is up.

Freedom is always there. Sometimes you just have to fight a little harder for it.
