I was lucky to be in one of his concerts here in Halifax few years back .Have only few pics of the concert hall screens that I took with very simple phone camera but that's my memory of him . I remember his energy and charm and how he made people sing with him , laugh and mostly cry . RIP great artist .

Lots of street entertainment in Gdansk, the day this was taken. I think it was part of the St Dominics fair that was going on there. It amazes me how these guys walk on stilts with such ease.

The Carnival of Brazil (Portuguese: Carnaval, IPA: [kaʁnaˈvaw]) is an annual festival held during the Friday to the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent, the forty-day period before Easter. On certain days of Lent, Roman Catholics and some other Christians traditionally abstained from the consumption of meat and poultry, hence the term "carnival," from carnelevare, "to remove (literally, "raise") meat." Carnival has roots in the pagan festival of Saturnalia, which, adapted to Catholicism became a farewell to well things in a season of religious discipline to practice repentance and prepare for Christ's death and resurrection. Rhythm, participation, and costumes vary from one region of Brazil to another. In the southeastern cities of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Vitória, huge organized parades are led by samba schools. Those official parades are meant to be watched by the public, while minor parades ("blocos") allowing public participation can be found in other cities. The northeastern cities of Recife, Olinda, Salvador and Porto Seguro have organized groups parading through streets, and public interacts directly with them. This carnival is also influenced by African-Brazilian culture. It's a six-day party where crowds follow the trios elétricos through the city streets, dancing and singing. Also in northeast, Olinda carnival features unique characteristics, heavily influenced by local folklore and cultural manifestations, such as Frevo and Maracatu.

He was sitting down with his dog. I have seen him many times in the area and he always looks a bit grumpy. I asked if I could take his photo and he nodded ... I like that he didn't look directly at the camera ... The dog didn't move at all thankfully. It looks a bit scary with that muzzle ...

Have a beautiful day, everyone...

Just beating the setting sun, Duchess of Hamilton emerges from Helm Tunnel with a healthy load of 13 Mk 1s.

I suspect this position at Breaks Hall has succumbed to lineside growth judging by the lack of images of the diesel shuttles here.

What I am sure of is that the telegraph wires are long gone, and 46229 is sadly unlikely to emerge from its tin bath to entertain both travellers and linesiders as it did in its preservation renaissance.

this may look like a motion shot but he was actually stood still like this, he wasn't leaning back on to anything either, no seat, far too clever for me, I had no idea how he did it. Can't believe this 'bit of fun' shot made explore, thanks so much for your views, comments and faves
