From the Australian Boys Choral Institute Christmas concert

In 1928 the Loew's State Theatre opened on Weybosset Street in downtown Providence as an opulently elegant movie house. Over the years its offerings, and its name, changed with the times, going from movies, to concerts of classical music and for a long time a well-known rock-n-roll venue. Saved from the wrecking ball around 1978 and extensively renovated since, the Providence Performing Arts Center today hosts large Broadway productions as well as orchestra performances in its once again majestically opulent surroundings. The theater's Richmond Street entrance still announces the interior grandeur inside. Providence, Rhode Island, USA.

Providencia, Rhode Island, Estados Unidos.

The Quintessential Pose - Bobcat performing the quintessential feline paw raise. This image is from an awesome 2 hour encounter in 2022 with this young Bobcat. I've observed her since she was a kitten and it's amazing to see how much she has grown. She acted as if I was an inanimate object in the environment. It's what I strive for when I photograph wildlife - to be the proverbial "fly on the wall" and capture wildlife acting as if I'm not present.

From official biography:

The Upper Crust played their first show in the back room of a Cambridge, Massachusetts bar one Monday night in 1994. Not for a moment did they or anyone else imagine that-more than a decade later-they would be comfortably enshrined in the pantheon of rock stardom, polishing their platform shoes to kick it up a notch with their newly remixed, remastered collection of stellar hits “Cream of the Crust.”

The original band concept was simple and loaded with comic potential: Young fellows singing about the joys and sorrows of the only life they knew, like numberless youths since the dawn of rock and roll… only these lads are filthy rich and theirs is a life of appalling self-indulgence, entitlement and privilege. The result was seen in instant classics like “Let Them Eat Rock,” “Little Lord Fauntleroy,” and “We're Finished With Finishing School.” Like any other concept band, the odds against longevity seemed loaded. No one has been more surprised then they themselves to find that the public's appetite and affection for the Upper Crust, far from diminishing, has grown more insatiable with every passing year. It was not long before the band's image resolved into sharper focus, as they adopted the dress and personae of members of the 18th century European aristocracy in powdered wigs and knee breeches, and the identities Jackie Kickassis (drums), Lord Bendover (guitar, vocals) the Duc d'Istortion (guitars, vocals). Original members Lord Rockingham and the Marquis du Rocque left to pursue other careers and were replaced by the vastly talented Count Bassie (bass, vocals).

The Crust appeared on Conan O'Brien, played with Aerosmith, earned accolades in national press (Vogue, GQ, etc.). They released three studio CDs and one live CD on various independent labels. They won the love and devotion of an ever- growing legion of fans, among them many music and show-business celebrities like Joan Jett, Steven Tyler and daughter Liv, Steve Jones (Sex Pistols), Tenacious D, etc.; people who could appreciate the nuances of their art with its peculiar blend of head-banging hard-rock, comedy, and theater.

Preferring the lavish comforts of their stately homes and disliking the hardships of the road, for several years they played mainly East Coast shows and spot tours, where they would fly to England, New Orleans or Los Angeles for one or two shows. In this way they succeeded in avoiding the demands of celebrity while enjoying its perquisites. But now the time has come for them to claim their due, and with the aid of famed producers Sean Slade and Paul Q. Kolderie, they've remixed and remastered a compilation of 18 of their greatest hits. Cream of the Crust is released in collaboration with Redeye Distribution.

The band has been feverishly active since September, hitting such diverse markets as Raleigh, N.C., Milwaukee, Chicago, Cleveland, Boston, Providence, R.I., New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Next, they contemplate a full West Coast tour and a more detailed Southern itinerary, and are entertaining offers from European promoters. A live Upper Crust DVD entitled “Horse & Buggery” will be issued by Reptilian Records of Baltimore in November to celebrate the label's 17th anniversary.

An animated appearance on the Comedy Channel's “Code Name: Kids Next Door” is scheduled for this winter (date to be determined).

Press activity is already swelling, with forthcoming spreads in several national publications. The band will be doing extensive radio and press promotion is available for interviews, in-store appearances and all other publicity.

Located in the 300 block of N. Main St. is the Coronado Theatre (now the Coronado Performing Arts Center), a 2,400-seat movie palace designed in Spanish Colonial Revival style by architect Frederic J. Klein. Klein also designed the Apollo Theatre in Peoria, Illinois and the Barrymore Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin. The Coronado cost $1.5 million to build, and opened on October 9, 1927.

The Coronado Theatre is an atmospheric theatre, a type of movie palace design which was popular in the late 1920s. Atmospheric theaters were designed and decorated to evoke the feeling of a particular time and place for patrons, through the use of projectors, architectural elements and ornamentation that evoked a sense of being outdoors. The Coronado's auditorium is designed as a courtyard with Spanish and Italianate facades, painted clouds, and electric 'stars', with Japanese dragons and lanterns decorating the screens of the theater's Barton organ.

The Coronado Theatre was built to present both films and live entertainment, with a fully equipped stage and orchestra pit. During the theatre's heyday which lasted from its opening until the 1960s, such famous stage acts as the Marx Brothers, Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, George Gershwin, Judy Garland, Bob Hope, Sammy Davis Jr., Gypsy Rose Lee, and Milton Berle appeared at the Coronado. Over the years, the Coronado has also played host to high school graduations, political rallies and community events. During his 1960 Presidential campaign, John F. Kennedy made a stop here.

In 1979, the Coronado was added to the National Register of Historic Places. One year later, the Coronado was made an historical landmark of the state of Illinois. In 1984, the Coronado ceased showing movies because of a decline in revenue.

In 1997, the Kerasotes Theater Organization, owner of the Coronado since 1970, donated the property to the City of Rockford. Plans to preserve and renovate the theater followed immediately. The Friends of the Coronado, founded in 1998, began an $18.5 million restoration project a year later. Rockford community members supported the restoration by donating nearly half of the required funds. The project's goals were both to restore the theater's deteriorating interior and bring the building structure up-to-date. After 18 months of construction, the Coronado reopened in 2001 in grand style as a state-of-the-art performance and entertainment facility.

In 2007, the Coronado was again added to the National Register of Historic Places, this time as a contributing property to the West Downtown Rockford Historic District. Additionally, in celebration of the 2018 Illinois Bicentennial, the Coronado Theatre was selected as one of the Illinois 200 Great Places by the American Institute of Architects Illinois component (AIA Illinois).

The city of Rockford is the county seat of Winnebago County, located in north central Illinois, just south of the Wisconsin border. With an estimated population of 145,609 as of 2019, Rockford is the fifth largest city in Illinois.

To perform kinetic photography is satisfying for me on many levels, and not just artistically. I have always believed in the philosophy of anthropomorphism, and so I believe that the "spirit," if you will, of the machinery, in this case my camera, is a co-conspirator with me to enable me to produce these interesting works of art.

I also believe in the phenomena of automatic drawing and automatic painting, and to me this type of photography has elements of both. Also, to perform kinetic photography in the manner in which I do, is for me a little akin to the old practice of suspending a can of paint above a canvas by a rope, poking small holes at irregular intervals in the can's bottom, and then giving it a gentle push to set it into a random swinging motion and continuing until you and the can of paint have together "made" a piece of art. I find similar elements in the process of my work: Just as with the can of paint swinging randomly over the canvas, one has a general idea of what might be produced, and must have a reasonable control over the technique and know when to stop.

The longer you look, the more you'll see, and feel, especially if you view these at their largest size in a darkened room and sit back about six feet or so from your computer monitor.

Thanks for looking. I hope you enjoy!

Please view large...there are some interesting details off in the shadows.

This addition to the series in my set, "Flux Velocity," is a kinetic photograph like all of those in the set, which means that I throw, tumble end-over-end, spin, whirl, and otherwise throw my camera up into the air, endangering its well-being, in order to obtain these artistic shots.

This is another in the series of shooting over my desktop. I hold the camera above my desk, spin and drop it, and must catch it before it crashes into all of the breakable stuff I have on my desk! Risky but fun! And the results are definitely worth it.

For those of you who follow my stream and / or have read the introduction to the set, "Flux Velocity," you will know that I finally failed to catch my camera and dropped it onto concrete, splitting it open (One of the risks you take to obtain these photos.). Save those broken cameras if they still work, which mine does: I now use it almost exclusively for kinetic photography and since it's damaged I've become willing to take even greater risks with it.

You may read more about the technique I use in the introduction to the Flux Velocity set:

NOTE: If you will view these at their largest size and sit back about 6 feet from your monitor, especially if the room is darkened, they will exhibit a nice 3-dimensional quality.

I hope you enjoy viewing these...I had fun making them for you.
