I wanted to recommend the film Perfect Days to everyone. Though it's another film directed by Wim Wenders, it is set in Tokyo and features an all Japanese cast, most notably Koji Yakusho as the lead. There is quite a bit of the visual concept of komorebi or “sunlight leaking through trees" as well as appreciating the sights and sounds and random bits of nature and people in each day. Each morning, Yakusho hears the street sweeper, sees the morning light (unless it's raining) and tends to his Japanese maple plants. The film eases you into his modest peaceful routine but there is some conflict along the way and you get to see the full range of human emotion.
Anyway, a coworker has been giving me an amaryllis bulb each year. I don't have to tend to it like my other plants (of which you can see in the shadows), but I do have to put it up high as it is toxic to cats. So, it sits on the highest bookshelf watching us lift our heads to admire how it grows. These bulbs needed to be cut today and I thought it would make not just a good photograph but a document of my life in terms of every day moments I experience.
I just want to mention again that I feel this film is an absolute masterpiece and, if I had been able to see it last year when it initially came out (It hit theaters here on Friday at The Music Box in Chicago), I would have definitely included it in my favorite films of 2023. Still, it's nice to have a post all just for this film.

The Protestant Church of St. Katharinen, which dates back to the 13th century, with its 115 meter high tower cannot be overlooked when you are traveling in the Hafencity in Hamburg.
It is considered the oldest upright building in Hamburg that is still in use.
Due to its proximity to the harbor, it is considered the sailors' church. That is why she also bears the name of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the patron saint of sailors and merchants.
Since Hamburg was one of Europe's centers for trade and shipping at the time, this makes perfect sense.
Further to the left in the background you can see the church of St. Nikolai, which was destroyed in the Second World War and of which only the tower remains today as a memorial.

I had chosen the perfect time to walk home this afternoon. A walk that normally takes 23 minutes, which now took me more than twice as long.

The adult peregrine falcon drop a piece of bird in the air, the juvenile peregrine falcon catching it in perfect timing.
While other photographers were looking for Snowy Plovers on the beach, I was focused on the cave dwellers out in the lineup. This guy could have got a really really long tube ride if he would have been positioned deeper and taken off on the peak.
Hi, my name is Barry. I'm a carpenter by trade, who loves walks in the forest, snuggling by the fire, and staying dry. I've been told I'm a bit of a hot-head, but one things for sure, ladies, I'm hot hot hot! So if you would like to see if there's a spark between us, why don't you send me a message and we'll meet for coffee and see what develops ...
Very badly done (photoshopped arms etc) for the Smile on Saturday 'Matches' theme (28-Mar-2020).
Edit: with Covid19 running rampant Barry is now in lockdown, along the rest of us Kiwis, but he's happy to still hear from any of the ladies who think he could be their perfect match ;-))

Beautiful posture of young women in hotel lobby in Norway. Shot while we waited to check into hotel at beginning of boat trip up the Western Coast of Norway. I was very impressed by her perfect posture, one I have rarely seen in all most travels to all seven continents and numerous countries and cities. Spontaneously shot and not pre-planned or pre-posed.
In a road trip around the beautiful island of Zanzibar, one sees a slow life and is taken back in time. My driver was eager to show me many of the modern conveniences that have popped up on the island.
He was somewhat surprised that those were not the images I was after. I told him that pictures reflecting a simpler and calmer way of life were often more appealing to many. I shared with him that I knew it was a difficult life , but that so was a life in a fast- paced society.
Five years ago, Mike V and I spent a pristine spring day at BNSF's bridge over Lake Ashtabula near Luverne, ND. It was one of those rare days on the northern plains when the wind wasn't blowing, leaving perfect reflections on the water all day long. It still rates as one of the best days of railfanning I've had, and this shot is one of my favorites. A crude oil train crosses the lake as some wildflowers look on and clouds float lazily overhead.
