There will be more rigorous testing tomorrow - a LOT of blank frames.

Update: it looks like this boy is going back to Japan.

Taken on Water Street back in 1986, here's a wharf that's in such bad condition it has sprouted a crop of grass and weeds in a number of areas, probably benefiting from steady fertilization provided by the heavy population of gulls. There are about a half dozen pigeons in residence, but it's clear that the gulls "own" this roost. The wharf and buildings are gone now, and have been for many years. I could have walked out to the wharf but it didn't look safe. The area around the building was undoubtedly spongy and rotten so I figured any photos would best be taken from the shore. I've been visiting Nova Scotia since 1976 and can't recall seeing this structure in any better condition than shown here. I have no idea when it disappeared, but it might have been removed by the town in a "revitalizing" of the waterfront area.

The original color negative image was taken with a Pentax 6x7, 300mm f/4 Takumar lens, using Kodacolor CP-100 roll film.

The original negative was copied using a Nikon D3500 camera, 55mm f/3.5 Micro-Nikkor, fitted with a Nikon 4T close-up lens, a 1.6x Sigma achromatic close-up lens on the 4T. Exposure was 1 second at f/11, ISO set at 100. The light source was a 13.5 watt LED bulb (5000K).

“When we define the Photograph as a motionless image, this does not mean only that the figures it represents do not move; it means that they do not (i)emerge(i), do not (i)leave(i): they are anesthetized and fastened down, like butterflies.”

When I went to Skye, although I went to Elgol I was at the time unaware that every photographer and their dog goes there. Therefore I was unaware, too, of the cliche shots. I went because my mother told me that she went there as a child, on a holiday with her father who died when she was still in high school. It was something of a small pilgrimage for me, to go where she had been, to go somewhere that meant so much to her that she still remembers almost every minute. So I duly went down the ridiculous hill that leads to the village, even though in the back of my mind I thought I'd never be able to get out again.

The weather was lousy. I couldn't see the famous range of hills over the water - didn't even know that I was meant to take shots of them like everyone else. But I took this - and it turned out that the one house I included was the one she had stayed in. It might not be a magazine-stereotypical shot of the place. but I guess that's some kind of result too.

I really love the tonality that Arista Ultra 200 / Fomapan 200 can achieve. I have to say, though, that it seems to always be a crap shoot whether or not the frame will be free of major defects, which can appear and disappear from frame to frame. This one worked out, but.....

The Arlington Diner

.

Two town over from where I grew up and I have had many breakfasts and dinners there. The childhood memories are probably why I love diners so much. Passing threw that area I just had to stop for breakfast. Unfortunately I had no fast film so no diner counter shots.

When leaves are green the scrubby shrubs and saplings that surround this oak block any view of it, at least from this angle. Around here, March is dull and muddy, but at least you can see some things that are hidden in the warmer months.

I wanted to work on development times for Arista Ultra 100 in stock Xtol. I usually develop this film in Rodinal, but in recent years Xtol has become my main developer. This roll came out pretty good, but compared to what I usually get with Rodinal it was a bit flat in contrast and a the grain was a little muddy. I may have overdeveloped it a little, so I can't really recommend the times below. It still came out fine with a little post processing.

Just message me on Flickr or IG, thanks

This is a self-portrait I captured with my Pentax 6x7 MLU using a 105mm 1:2.4 lens, on Holga 400 film. I used a monopod to compose and focus the shot and I used a Kopil mechanical shutter release to trigger the shot.

This photograph was taken using a Pentax 6 x 7 medium format camera and a 75mm SMC F4.5 lens, film used was 35mm Ilford HP5 Plus rated at 400 ISO. The film was digitized using a Canon EOS-R camera with a Canon FD 50mm macro lens +25mm extension tube and then processed with DXO 5 software.

The little two track that you take to get to this spot ends somewhat abruptly a the top of the bluff. The first time I visited, back in 2004, a half submerged pickup truck was soaking in the river below. Must of been a helluva ride down!

The church which is a grade I listed building dates from the early 13th century, with the addition of a second north aisle, probably about the middle of the same century. It presents some unusual and interesting features, a double aisle, duplicated chancel arches, and a bell turret built on the east wall of the nave.

This photograph was taken with a Pentax 6 x 7 medium format camera and a 55mm wide angle lens fitted with an orange filter. The film was Ilford HP5+ 400 ISO and professionally developed and scanned.
