Here we see 90019 looking immaculate at London Euston on the day she was named "Penny Black" by Bill Cockburn. Back in those days, my photography skills were somewhat primitive. According to the records, it looks like this was taken on the 1/5/1990.

1840 Penny Black (first stamp issued in the world), 1882 high value issued for registered packages and 1887 value from a set issued to commemorate Queen Victoria's 50th year on the throne.

A view of the Penny Black , a pub in Leatherhead , the last time I was in there it would have been to buy a stamp ( but not a penny black though ! ) back in the day when it was a post office .

I can't remember anything about it , but I am told when a baby I was left in my pram outside of here for quite time until realisation prompted a return to collect me !! Would have been a different story these days !

A little history from the plaque on one of the brick pillars can be found in the first comment box .

Thanks for taking the time!

As if things weren't bad enough yesterday with our gas boiler dying on us, the only other source of heat in the house, a gas fire failed to ignite. After reassurance from Gas Services Wales ( who haven't let us down in over 20 years) that they'd install a replacement tomorrow and check out the fire, me and mine drove down to a local coffee shop to warm up a bit. This is the wallpaper on one wall. The place used to be a sub - Post Office but after it closed, it was bought by a young lady who has made it a great success. Before I went out I took the photo in comments as my banker shot.

A card I created using a Penny Black stamp “Unwind” with colored pencil..

This is the 2nd of three cards I'll teach at LSS. I couldn't wait to use the new Circle Desin stamp since my mother has crocheted me several doilies for Christmas that look just like this .... right down to the color! Detail picture in my photo stream as is the 3rd card which is not Hero Arts.

It seems oddly right to post this at present - the booklet in the introduction notes the history of the letters service spanning the reigns of two Queen Elizabeths; Elizabeth I who reigned from 1558 until 1603 and "our own Queen Elizabeth who came to the throne in February 1952" and whose long reign has just ended. This cover indeed shows a portrait of Elizabeth Tudor and a definitive stamp of a design in common use during the late Queen Elizabeth II's reign.

At the time of issue the Post Office was responsible not just for postal services and the Post Office network but also a wide range of telecommunications that had started with telegraph services and had grown to encompass telephony. As the booklet says the latter was on the cusp of great growth thanks to new technology such as an established radio network and the new "micro-wave" system that would culminate in the construction of the GPO Tower in London and similar structures elsewhere. Technology was also being used in postal services, such as in mechanised and automated sorting, an area the GPO was often a leader in thanks to the existance of the Post Office's own research laboratories. Over time this was all broken up with the Post Office counters now separated from Royal Mail and the telecommunications long since privatised.

The cover, showing 'old and new' is by Edgar Longman.

If this looks familiar, it is! I took the ribbon and flower embellishment, which I liked, off of another card, which I didn't like, and put it on this new card, that I do like! I don't know if I put my comma's in the right place for this to make sense. I could probably use a refresher course in grammar. O-K...I do need one! LOL Just sharing and TFL!

Records, Area Pirata e Dischi Bervisti.
