Honey bees do play an important role as pollinators of crops and wild flowers, but some wild flowers have suffered from their presence as these flowers can only be pollinated by our native bees. Some native bees use a special pollination technique required by certain flowers called buzz pollination. European honey bees do not use this technique and remove pollen without pollinating the flowers.

FRIGATE 356 (MV Captain Keith Tibbets), a 306 foot long Soviet built Cuban warship from the late Cold War era, lies in ghostly stillness 40-90 feet beneath the surface in Cayman Brac.
A unique remnant of the Cold War, it is one of only two diveable Soviet warship wrecks in the Western Hemisphere. The other, also a Koni class, aluminum, gas-turbine powered, high speed frigate, lies submerged nearby in the waters of Cuba.
Another massive waste of resources inspired by the Cold War, this ship was part of a trio of frigates built in the Soviet Union in the early 80's, transferred to the Cuban Navy and then, after lengthy training by Soviet sailors, had just been commissioned for duty when the Soviet Union collapsed. After sitting for a decade as scrap, the Cayman Islands Government, with the notable translational assistance of a Spanish speaking Caymanian barmaid (it's true!), purchased and scuttled this iconoclastic piece of history as a diving attraction, 89 miles south of Cuba in Cayman Brac. The ship was renamed the Capt. Keith Tibbetts.
When originally scuttled, the ship settled on the bottom perfectly upright with it's bow hanging over the wall (a 6000 foot drop-off into the Cayman Trench). Fourteen years later, after repeatedly being addressed by hurricanes and storms, the wreck has moved back from the wall by about 100 feet and split into two halves with the forward half rolled onto it's port side and yawing 20 degrees to port. Between the two halves, a debris field of destruction above which one of the large turbines juts out into the water column.
Astonishingly, as can be seen in the photo, there is no apparent growth on the ship, something that should be prevalent after 14 years. Though Nature is slowly working it's way onto this wreck, it's primary component, aluminum, has rendered it a death ship in the afterlife.
Personally, I really enjoy diving this wreck. It has a number of points of penetration created by the wrath of tempests past although there are numerous hazards. Many of the gauges in the engine and mechanical rooms are intact and with clear Russian letters. There are many surprise inhabitants inside including large groupers, barracuda and one nearly extinct large fish species.
Access by boat or by shore dive from Buccaneer Bay. Cayman Brac.

This was the massive vehicle that was used to test the ground next to my house. A big steel rod is pushed hydraulically into the ground and a chart is created that shows the resistance it met. Low resistance means that it went through soft saturated sand and higher resistance shows firm compact sand. At the level that piles would end they would have encountered a soft layer of sand. So my foundations are to be a cheaper layer of aggregate .6m deep. The procedure is called a cone penetration test.
