The Pelicans at Beaumaris Lake here in Edmonton are providing us with many great photo ops. I posted two images.

Coming in for a landing. Taken in Estero, Florida.
Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
Number 5 in the series folks, hope your not getting tired of my nonsense. This is a very large bird and had never seen this behavior where he could just spring himself into action and take off, usually they have to make a running start to get airborne, but not so in this case, that said I have 2 more and this will end the series of my Pelican adventure.
Thank you all for the visit, and have aa wonderful day.
.. with a busted wing!

10 Pelicans wing their way over Lake Michigan...
I like how the bright white feathers stand out against the dark grey of the lake.

We went to Fort DeSoto Park in St. Petersburg, Florida looking for the reddish egret and the white morph. I got this shot early in the morning. Brown pelicans are so common in Florida that I doubted I would even process it. However, when I looked at it, I liked it. I almost had to squint, just like I did when I took the shot. Anyway, here it is.

This is a small part of a huge group at Lake Waco. They were quite a way off and not a great photo. They always hang out together. Have a wonderful new week.
A beautiful, sunny Saturday at Las Gallinas Water Treatment Plant. It never ceases to amaze us when we see this prehistoric looking bird. Fossil evidence of pelicans dates back to at least 30 million years to the remains of a beak very similar to that of modern species recovered from Oligocene strata in France. The American white pelican is one of the longest birds native to North America. The species also has the second largest average wingspan of any North American bird, after the California condor.
