Reflektionen auf der Pegnitz in der Nürnberger Altstadt, mit Blick auf die Fronveste mit dem Schleyerturm, die ein beide ein Teil der Nürnberger Stadtbefestigung sind. Die Veste wurde 1489 - 1494 erbaut und galt damals aufgrund der Konstruktion als technische Spitzenleistung.

Das Heilig-Geist-Spital in Nürnberg war die größte städtische Einrichtung (Siechenhaus) zur Versorgung von Kranken und (vor allem) Alten in der Reichsstadt und wurde durch die Franziskaner betreut. Darüber hinaus diente es als Wohnstätte für Behinderte, als Schulhaus, Spital mit Apotheke sowie Wöchnerinnenstation. Das Spital wurde zum Teil über dem Bett der Pegnitz errichtet. Es wurde von Konrad Groß, dem damals reichsten Nürnberger Bürger, als gestiftet. Das Spital wurde 1339 zusammen mit einer Kirche, das wie in allen mittelalterlichen Städten dem Heiligen Geist geweiht war.
Es ist bekannt als Aufbewahrungsstätte der Reichskleinodien, die von 1424 bis 1796 in Nürnberg verwahrt wurden.
Der Sage nach wurden das Heilig-Geist-Spital und seine Bewohner um 1340 Zielscheibe eines bösen Scherzes von Till Eulenspiegel, der vorgab, an einem Tage alle Kranken ohne Arznei gesund gemacht zu haben.
The Holy Spirit Hospital in Nuremberg was the largest municipal institution (infirmary) for the care of the sick and (especially) the elderly in the imperial city and was run by the Franciscans. It also served as a home for the disabled, a school, a hospital with a pharmacy and a maternity ward. The hospital was partly built over the bed of the Pegnitz. It was donated by Konrad Groß, the richest citizen of Nuremberg at the time. The hospital was built in 1339 together with a church dedicated to the Holy Spirit, as in all medieval towns.
It is known as the repository of the imperial jewels, which were kept in Nuremberg from 1424 to 1796.
According to legend, the Holy Spirit Hospital and its inhabitants became the target of an evil joke by Till Eulenspiegel around 1340, who pretended to have cured all the sick in one day without medicine.
The Henkersteg begins at the Henkerturm and connects the flea market, an island in the Pegnitz, with the district of St. Lorenz, where it ends next to the Unschlitthaus on the Unschlittplatz.
It was given the name Henkersteg from the Henker Tower, the former apartment of the imperial city hangman on the Säumarkt (today: flea market). After severe war damage, the footbridge was reconstructed in 1954. In 2000, it became a station on Nuremberg's historic mile, which was created to mark the city's 950th birthday.
Etwa zwanzig mittelalterliche Fachwerkhäuser in der Weißgerbergasse haben die schweren Luftangriffe auf Nürnberg überstanden. Die Weißgerbergasse spiegelt daher ein Stück des historischen Nürnbergs, insbesondere eines alten Handwerkerviertels innerhalb des Burgviertels, wider. Der Name der Gasse kommt von den Weißgerbern, die im Mittelalter dort ansässig waren und im Gegensatz zu den Rotgerbern mit Hilfe von Alaun, Kochsalz, Mehl, Eiern und Baumöl rohe Tierhäute zu feinem, hellen Leder, dem sogenannten Weißleder, verarbeiteten. Da das Gerben der Tierhäute damals sehr viel Wasser beanspruchte und zudem eine nicht unerhebliche Geruchsbelästigung darstellte, kommt es nicht von ungefähr, dass die Handwerkshäuser fast alle über einen privaten Brunnen verfügten und am Ortsausgang in der Nähe der abfließenden Pegnitz angesiedelt waren.
About twenty medieval half-timbered houses on Weißgerbergasse survived the heavy air raids on Nuremberg. The Weißgerbergasse therefore reflects a piece of historic Nuremberg, in particular an old craftsmen's quarter within the castle district. The name of the alley comes from the white tanners who lived there in the Middle Ages and, in contrast to the red tanners, processed raw animal skins into fine, light-colored leather, the so-called white leather, with the help of alum, common salt, flour, eggs and tree oil. Since the tanning of animal skins used up a lot of water at the time and also caused a not inconsiderable odor nuisance, it is no coincidence that the craft houses almost all had a private well and were located on the outskirts of the town near the outflow of the Pegnitz.

A view upstream the Pegnitz river. The building on the left is the Heilig-Geist-Spital, built 1339. The Reichskleinodien (Imperial Regalia) were stored there from 1424 to 1796.
The Schuldturm tower in the center was built in 1323 as part of the town fortifications. As the city grew and new fortifications were built further outside the town, the tower found new use as debtors' prison, thus the name Schuldturm (lit. "debt tower").

Kleines Panorama mit Blick auf die Fachwerkhäuser des Kreuzgassenviertels, sowie auf die Fronveste und den Kettensteg am Altstadtausfluss der Pegnitz. Der Steg sieht zwar modern aus, er ist aber die älteste erhaltene eiserne Kettenbrücke in Kontinentaleuropa. Der Kettensteg gilt als ein technikgeschichtliches Denkmal und ist Teil der Historischen Meile Nürnbergs.
Small panorama with a view of the half-timbered houses of the Kreuzgassenviertel, as well as the Fronveste and the Kettensteg at the old town outlet of the Pegnitz. The footbridge looks modern, but it is the oldest preserved iron chain bridge in continental Europe. The chain footbridge is considered a monument of technical history and is part of Nuremberg's Historic Mile.
Este puente suspendido de hierro que cruza el río Pegnitz junto a una de las torres de la muralla es otro de los interesantes rincones de la ciudad de Nuremberg.
El entorno del río , las arboledas y las casa que lo rodean, completan el paisaje.
Fue en 1824 cuando se construyó como puente de hierro colgante de 68 metros de largo y con 3,65 toneladas de hierro forjado, lo que le convierte en el más antiguo de este estilo construido en Alemania.
Su nombre viene de Kette, que significa cadena en alemán, y corresponde a los eslabones de cadena con los que el puente está suspendido a ambos lados.
Una curiosidad de este puente es que durante la época nacionalsocialista de la ciudad se planteó la demolición del puente porque era un elemento discordante con el paisaje histórico de Nuremberg.
El estallido de la Segunda Guerra Mundial es lo que salvó al puente de su demolición, ¡menos mal!

It was a private foundation sponsored by the city, which was looked after by the Franciscans. It served as a dwelling for the elderly and disabled, as a school building, hospital with pharmacy and maternity ward.
The Kettensteg is a pedestrian bridge in Nuremberg and bridges the Pegnitz. It is considered to be the oldest preserved iron chain bridge in continental Europe and is located directly at the old town outflow of the Pegnitz in front of the Fronveste between Hallertor and Kreuzgasse. The narrow footbridge is around 68 meters long and was used exclusively for pedestrian traffic from the very beginning. The chain bridge is considered a technical-historical monument and is part of Nuremberg's historic mile.

Edificio construido en una isla en medio del río Pegnitz, que se fundó para atender a los ancianos.
Es uno de los bonitos rincones de Nüremberg que se ve al hacer la ruta de los puentes.

We certainly didn't regret making the decision on a warm summer's day. Lauf an der Pegnitz is another beautiful medieval town in the countryside not far from Nürnberg (Nuremberg). This is one end of the large market square within the town walls. A re-edited archives shot. [FUJI4144_lr_2000]
