This simple view, portrayed in a photograph, because, well the real thing is too big for the gallery space, was taken by Max Dupain in 1977. It depicts the Giralang Primary School, another of Enrico Taglietti's commissions. In typical Dupain style, it is peerless.
Don't know about Max Dupain? Shame on you! This Photostream has oblique references to Dupain via his first wife, Olive Cotton, and his father George Dupain. To my shame, I should do better!
Olive was an accomplished photographer in her own right and inspired a little COVID creativity. There was more in her portfolio!
George Dupain founded the Institute of Physical Education and Medical Gymnastics where Emmeline Freda du Faur enrolled to train for her mountaineering exploits. It was here she met her lover and lifetime partner Muriel Cadogan.
Fun fact: Olive Cotton's uncle Frank Cotton invented the G-suit or as he called it: the "Cotton aerodynamic anti-G flying suit".
I really don't need my television, refrigerator, telephone or watch talking to each other. But I'm quite glad that these talented people all bumped into each other in the small pressure cooker that was Sydney, and then later as Canberra grew beyond a sheep station with a Parliament, such matters continued.
Here's a hint of the interconnectedness: Freda du Faur's father married the daughter of the first principal of Sydney University. Freda gained an independent income in a legacy from her Aunt, her mother's sister, which enabled her to travel and pursue her mountaineering; that put her in the same circle as Muriel. George Cotton was a physiologist at said Sydney University, and Olive's uncle Carl was in business with, that's right, Max Dupain's father, George. Olive's father, taking up the photography thread, had used his skills with a camera on the Shackleton expedition to Antarctica before becoming Professor of Geology at Sydney Uni… Max studied at the Julian Ashston Art School, and Freda's father became entangled with the Art Gallery of New South Wales where his influence was exerted over those fantastic bronze friezes on the façade…
Around we go! I'm getting giddy. Time to leave. Just let this be a reminder to you: wherever there is genius and creativity, you'll never be far away from someone with a camera.

Sporting Group: The Curly-Coated Retriever, among the oldest of the retriever breeds, is a famously versatile gundog and peerless swimmer. Poised, proud, and wickedly smart, the Curly is a thinking person's retriever who will never quit before you do. The Curly-Coated Retriever's tight, crisp curls of either black or liver serve as waterproof and thorn-resistant all-weather gear for work in thick bramble and icy lakes. The Curly is a big, durable gun dog, but more elegant and graceful than other retrievers.

The only time I caught this MP15 in its very unusual paint scheme was on an early fall day way back in 2002 on the former Milwaukee Road Chicago & Evanston (C&E) Line. The crew was traveling light to pick up an empty tank car from Peerless Confectionery.
Note the battered Griswold crossing signal-the Milwaukee Road was its largest customer. The Milwaukee Road was able to successfully petition the ICC in 1979 to stop maintaining signals on the C&E due to frequent vandalism in the pre-gentrification era. In return it was reduced to 10MPH speeds and flagging major crossings.
Less than five years later this scene would just be a memory as Peerless went out of business in May of 2007 and with it freight service on this stretch of the C&E by CP successor Chicago Terminal.
I may be exaggerating a bit with that title! ...But not by much! [Giggle!]

On Peerless Model 7705, the belly chain is connected by a longer chain with a pair of leg irons. This type of combination further restricts the detainee's freedom of movement and prevents him from running and escape; the chain running down from the belly chain to the leg irons holds the leg irons' chain just off the ground to prevent it from dragging and catching.
A Soo Line train dropped off this tank car of corn syrup for hard candy maker Peerless Confectionery a short time earlier.
Peerless was the last customer on the former Milwaukee Road Chicago & Evanston Line north of Clybourn after 1984. It closed in May of 2007. Shortline Chicago Terminal would have a couple of non-revenue runs after that up to the end of the line.
Seems this is a Peerless 2 Litre. A bright cold morning, backlit the car parked on a steep lane to a slipway. A fine film of moisture on the body and windscreen made the car look more purposeful somehow... out and about, getting used.

Handcuffs - The Peerless Handcuff Company, Springfield, USA - 100 Years Old & Still Going Strong.
Peerless® Handcuff Company was established in 1914 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Over ninety years later the classic swing through design of the original Peerless® handcuff continues to be an industry standard.
James Milton Gill founded the company after purchasing the patent for a new handcuff design that would revolutionize the law enforcement profession. The inventor was George Carney. Carney’s innovation was the now familiar swing through self locking handcuff. Unlike other restraints of the day, this design was relatively lightweight and easy to carry. The new style handcuff also gave officers a significant advantage since it was easily applied and effectively restrained both hands. The combination of lightweight and ease of use greatly increased officer and public safety.

The "Makalös" ("Peerless") Palace, built in 1635-1643 for the noble family De la Gardie, in Kungsträdgården (King's Garden) park in central Stockholm. The palace was in the 18th century used as arsenal, and from the 1790s as location for the Royal Dramatic Theatre. It was destroyed by a fire in 1825, during a theatre performance. To the left in the image is Jakob's church.
Chalcography by Georg Christoph Kilian, probably from the first half of the 18th century.

Peerless and talented master ves-chan www.flickr.com/photos/26947305@N06/ did for my Ivo (Dollstown 18 boy) incredibly realistic military jacket, which I began to dream a year ago, for a long time looking for the masters in the network. To provide s020.radikal.ru/i719/1509/6f/da3fae6380ac.jpg, ves-chan made absolutely identical version of my amendments on drawings (hawk replaced by wolf ). Among other things, she embroiders patterns on a typewriter, so they are realistic and fit on the scale. This mega-cool!
Sutures, both external and internal, without a single blot, fabric quality is such as I wanted (in conjunction with a master for a long time picking), accessories and scale perfectly met for bjd, and looks extremely impressive. And also - to meet all deadlines to send a photo of intermediate processes, and communication was very friendly and prompt.
I am very happy (given my reverent attitude to detail) and heartfelt thanks for the wonderful wizard thing! Now I am happy, because Ivo finished.

Ghost sign on the side of the former home of the Peerless Chain Company, Winona, Minnesota. Peerless Chain Company was started by three brothers in 1917 making tire chains in the back room of a butcher shop. While they are no longer at this location, they have grown over the past century to become the largest chain producer in the U.S., and the third-largest in the world.
In 1928, Bill Lacey, riding a 500cc Grindlay Peerless at Brooklands banked circuit, in Surrey, Englnd became the first person to ride 100 miles in an hour on a British track.
The following year, 5 or 6 replicas were built, one of which was bought by Edmond "Boy" Tubb in 1936. Some of the replicas had a spelling mistake on the tank - Grindlay with an "e".
Pic taken in the Brooklands Museum. Lighting is not great in the museum for photography - this is a 15 second exposure at iso100 and F10.
This bike sold at auction for £67,000.00 in 2012.
CP Rail running light up to Peerless Confectionery in the fading daylight of a winter's day. Crossing busy Fullerton Avenue on the former Milwaukee Road Chicago & Evanston (C&E) Line.
Traffic on Fullerton amazingly kept going around the slow moving locomotive until it blasted its horn enough to clear a path.
Here's a view of the signal protection on the north side of Fullerton from 1985 at this location.

On a personal note while photographing this line over the years I used to drop in for lunch to go at the Burger King in the background as well as buy film at the camera store just west of the tracks in the little strip shopping center.

Peerless Confectionery went out of business in May of 2007 and a short time later its buildings were leveled and replaced by condos. There were just two revenue runs of which I am aware by Chicago Terminal during its short time servicing Peerless which took place in January and February of 2007. They are documented below in my CTM album.
The CTM SW8 is running light up the last mile that was left of the former Milwaukee Road Chicago & Evanston North Line to retrieve cars left behind by CP at Peerless Confectionery at Diversey Parkway the week before.
Chicago Terminal is no more as of 2019 and the last train to operate north of Clybourn was to retrieve gondolas parked on the former Peerless spur in 2009.
Seventh in a series of screen grabs I will post from video I took on the first day of Chicago Terminal operations as it made its way from the UP North Avenue Yard where it was a tenant on its way to switch Finkl Steel and Peerless Confectionery. I was a guest of Ed Ellis for the first two days of operations to document it. I also wound up acting as a pilot for the crew as CP left behind no instructions.
Images are from converted from DVD format and cleaned up as much as possible in Photoshop. It was a dreary, overcast day with rain on and off again, and the SW8 engine in which we were riding was rocking back and forth which made taking videos a challenge.
If you want to see a video of mine that shows CP working this line go to-
studio.youtube.com/video/pQXSrwYdoQk/edit
Due to conversations in the cab that the crew probably didn't want being made public I am not going to share the full video of this trip plus I do not feel like taking the time to edit out the audio. Enjoy the still images instead from those first two days in this album.
I believe this is a 1927 model although the price is far higher than any price lists I've found. This probably was an Eight.
That's how it's done, throwing a switch set in the street as the CP Rail conductor shows.
Rare plumage for CP with this former North Louisiana & Gulf MP15. It was the only time I caught this engine working the former Milwaukee Road Chicago & Evanston (C&E) Line. It's on its way to pick up an empty tank car from Peerless Confectionery using street trackage.
Everything in this scene is gone now. Peerless Confectionery closed in May of 2007 and was torn down a short time later and replaced by condos. The last rail movement on this line was in 2009 when CP successor Chicago Terminal spotted gondolas on the former Peerless spur to assert its rights to the tracks.
As of the latest Google Streetview, remarkably tracks remain in the street.
Photographed on July 26, 2014 at the Inn at St. John's in Plymouth, Michigan as cars were arriving on the show field for the following day's Concours d'Elegance show.
Fantastic car, this is the first Peerless Coupe I have seen, and it is in original condition.
