Walking the halls of the old Fantus Clinic of Cook County Hospital. It was interesting seeing the old wall art and posters left behind. This clinic treated many low income patients.
Vol. 1, No. 1 of a new magazine called "Short Shorts," a vehicle for a "brief, fast, dramatic,.....powerful form" of story demanded by a public who has experienced the "vastly quickened" pace and rhythm of the previous twenty years (1910's and 20's). I know the cover illustrator only as "Hofman." July, 1932.
For those kind friends who have inquired, I am now home from tending to my mother who had pneumonia. We are taking care of choosing assisted living for her and in the process of repairing her house, so I will be back and forth for awhile. The intense attention to health and house details did not prevent me from finding more treasures, however!

"Butterick also published a series of pamphlets for children titled The Little Delineator. Designed for both boys and girls, the pamphlets featured eight pages of stories, artwork and contests. Each issue focused on a theme (often a holiday or season). They also featured play ideas (items to make), and on teaching morals and values. The series did not have a fashion focus as did The Delineator, but was more general in outlook. Each issue offered some kind of prize or reward and a Deli-Club membership card. The series did not contain advertising."

I have added a new category: Science Fiction! I fell in love with the illustrations in this book, and have seen mention of few others on-line, especially the 1923 book "The Ship That Flew to Mars." I have included one illustration from the "Ship" for comparison purposes here.

Sometimes the clippings Barbara sends me has a lot of interest on the back, and sometimes I can pick up the thread of the story, like a detective. Bob and Betty here obviously belong in my "Dental Hygeine" set, although you would never know it by the images.

Bits of my collection! Released in 1962 and depicts children reading, sleeping infant, playing ball, vaccination. Scott #891-894 (Portugal). These are definitely some of my favorite stamps in my collection--the gestures of these children are so natural, nuanced, sweet and simple.

Lieutenant Jimmy E. Albright, Dental Corps, U.S. Navy of Knoxville, Tennessee, administers a shot to deaden the pain before performing a tooth extraction on a small Vietnamese boy. The boy's mother holds him on her lap during the operation. The dental (sic) were on a civic action trip to Hoc Mon, a small village 15 miles east of Saigon, Republic of Vietnam.
