The more or less extinct tradition of pearl diving (free-diving without equipment), exhibited at the Mikimoto Island pearl farming facility. Although it was an impressive display, I couldn't help but to feel a bit sad. Because of today's modern technique in pearl farming, these women's skill is no longer needed and the art of the Ama divers is soon to be lost forever . . .

"Pearl Jam is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. The band's line up consists of founding members Jeff Ament (bass guitar), Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar), Mike McCready (lead guitar), and Eddie Vedder (lead vocals, guitar), as well as Matt Cameron (drums), who joined in 1998. Keyboardist Boom Gaspar has also been a touring/session member with the band since 2002. Drummers Jack Irons, Dave Krusen, Matt Chamberlain, and Dave Abbruzzese are former members of the band. Pearl Jam outsold many of their contemporary alternative rock bands from the early 1990s, and are considered one of the most influential bands of the decade,[1] being dubbed as "the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s". If you ever visit Twickenham, go to Thames Riverside..on opposite side there will be Eel Pie Island...But on this coast is a hidden pearl- Church Street. You will never forget that special atmosphere

Church Street took its name from St Mary’s Church over 500 years ago and was the main street linking travellers between Richmond and the West. When Richmond Bridge was built in 1777, York Street became the main through route. Church Street, however, still remains a perfect street for shopping in the many unique shops and eating out. It is also a popular location for film makers.

Usually she is asleep, but the other morning she saw me and watched me for awhile with her intense gaze. I think Cleo was in my window then, so she was looking at Cleo, too.
The pearl crescents were all over the blue mist flowers.

Once one of our most widespread butterflies the Pearl bordered Frittillay has declined to such an extent that it is now confined to a few small fragile communities

Now history with bizarre connotations, the Pearl Square was one of the symbols of Bahrain. The structure with six legs and a sphere on the top represented the six GCC - Gulf Cooperation Countries, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The sphere was the symbol for pearl Bahrain was once famous for. The square was made the place for congregation and demonstrations during the 2011 social unrest and was made an alternative symbol for the anti-government uprisal. After events soothed several months later with tens of casualties on both sides, the government demolished the structure. Ironically, Qatar which was represented by one of the six legs was targeted by three other members of the GCC and faced severing of the ties and sanctions imposed by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE.
Maybe the only one left at this site. I haven't seen any small pearls this year which is very sad. I enjoyed an hour watching this female. See you next year.
'FAKE' for Macro Mondays.
These pearls are really just beads. The red and black handbag with the Prada logo was a recent charity shop find. Still, you can dream....

Magnolia Pearl-located in the quaint little German town of Fredericksburg, Texas. Located just a few miles out of town off of Hwy. 290 East, nestled between Fredericksburg's endless wine vineyards and rolling peach orchards. Magnolia Pearl is more than just a clothing store; they enveloped the old-world feel of Fredericksburg with the old German grain barn style building made with reclaimed wood, which was sourced from all over the country.
Tiny, common, found all over the United States. I have lots of photos of them. Don't need more. Still, when they land right in front of me, open their wings and hold the pose....I just can't help myself. Maybe just one more shot.....

Pearl's hair has grown so much this summer. I watered her today. I do it rarely and that is why her pearls have lasted.
Mother of Pearl
Roxy Music
1973
‘Oh lonely dreamer
Your choker provokes
A picture cameo
Oh mother of pearl
So so semi-precious
In your detached world’
The song comes from the album ‘Stranded’, which reached number 1 in 1973. The song has many lines that have stuck in my memory for no particular reason.
‘Melancholy shimmering’ came to mind as the headlight pierced the fog.
‘Just out of reach, glowing, very Holy grail’ was very true on my first attempt at the picture when the breeze blew the cobwebs out of focus at the last moment!
‘But the search for perfection
Your own predilection
Goes on and on and on and on’
Seemed apt too as I made my fourth (and final!) attempt at the picture in two hours whilst standing in freezing fog!
I didn’t quite manage to get ‘Serpentine sleekness
Was always my weakness’ into the picture, but nice to have something still to aim for!
