This past year seems so surreal. I have to keep pinching myself to remind me its not a dream and the events of 2020 are really happening. Oy Vey, right?
So, rather than dwell on what was, let's focus on what can and will be. Let the holiday spirit inspire you to embrace the season for what it's meant to be and find some Peace On Earth.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stay healthy and safe!!

Soaking up the scenery watching the sun go down over the ocean. One of the best feelings in the world ππ
A BRAVE AND STARTLING TRUTH (Maya Angelou)
We, this people, on a small and lonely planet
Traveling through casual space
Past aloof stars, across the way of indifferent suns
To a destination where all signs tell us
It is possible and imperative that we learn
A brave and startling truth
And when we come to it
To the day of peacemaking
When we release our fingers
From fists of hostility
And allow the pure air to cool our palms
When we come to it
When the curtain falls on the minstrel show of hate
And faces sooted with scorn are scrubbed clean
When battlefields and coliseum
No longer rake our unique and particular sons and daughters
Up with the bruised and bloody grass
To lie in identical plots in foreign soil
When the rapacious storming of the churches
The screaming racket in the temples have ceased
When the pennants are waving gaily
When the banners of the world tremble
Stoutly in the good, clean breeze
When we come to it
When we let the rifles fall from our shoulders
And children dress their dolls in flags of truce
When land mines of death have been removed
And the aged can walk into evenings of peace
When religious ritual is not perfumed
By the incense of burning flesh
And childhood dreams are not kicked awake
By nightmares of abuse
When we come to it
Then we will confess that not the Pyramids
With their stones set in mysterious perfection
Nor the Gardens of Babylon
Hanging as eternal beauty
In our collective memory
Not the Grand Canyon
Kindled into delicious color
By Western sunsets
Nor the Danube, flowing its blue soul into Europe
Not the sacred peak of Mount Fuji
Stretching to the Rising Sun
Neither Father Amazon nor Mother Mississippi who, without favor,
Nurture all creatures in the depths and on the shores
These are not the only wonders of the world
When we come to it
We, this people, on this minuscule and kithless globe
Who reach daily for the bomb, the blade and the dagger
Yet who petition in the dark for tokens of peace
We, this people on this mote of matter
In whose mouths abide cankerous words
Which challenge our very existence
Yet out of those same mouths
Come songs of such exquisite sweetness
That the heart falters in its labor
And the body is quieted into awe
We, this people, on this small and drifting planet
Whose hands can strike with such abandon
That in a twinkling, life is sapped from the living
Yet those same hands can touch with such healing, irresistible tenderness
That the haughty neck is happy to bow
And the proud back is glad to bend
Out of such chaos, of such contradiction
We learn that we are neither devils nor divines
When we come to it
We, this people, on this wayward, floating body
Created on this earth, of this earth
Have the power to fashion for this earth
A climate where every man and every woman
Can live freely without sanctimonious piety
Without crippling fear
When we come to it
We must confess that we are the possible
We are the miraculous, the true wonder of this world
That is when, and only when
We come to it.

and let it begin with me.
Happy Holidays Everyone.
'Tis the Season of Great Joy and Appreciation.
"Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me
Let There Be Peace on Earth
The peace that was meant to be
With God as our Father
Brothers all are we
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now "
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow
To take each moment
and live each moment
In peace eternally
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me."

history is a record of hard lines and defended borders.
a long, complicated argument written in stone and steel.
but peace is not a treaty.
it is a brief, weightless moment.
a silent ceasefire in the endless noise.
it does not erase the borders below.
it simply reminds us that the sky is open,
and belongs to no one.

The way I felt the energy build around me hours beforehand
Our goosebumps a new kind of Braille
A way of seeing and reading
Arms against arms with messages held up to the sky.
Wondering if the clouds will truly see us more than politicians do.
The humans looking out at the crowd from high rises.
The signs that were honest, angry, and sometimes also funny.
(Because humor is one way to deal with great sorrow.)
I recall the way the photographers were
Climbing on top of train platforms to get a better view.
The little kids carried on their parents' shoulders
Perhaps someday this will all just feel like a bad dream to them.
The same way a third grader in 2022 exclaimed:
βRemember Donald Trump?!?β
Then started hysterically laughing.
I treasure the young human in cap and gown
Holding up a handmade sign
βI missed my commencement for this!β
How this made me cry amidst all of the others
The older people who still haven't given up
Fighting for civil rights their entire life only to see this happen
The people stuck in traffic watching from their cars and
Holding a power fist out
Beeping and cheering from their windows.
I call to mind the whole family in Mexican flag face paint
The pairing of signs held by more privileged people against ICE
All of the humans who dared to be present
When they could easily be the targets of nihilists.
Their continued existence a protest.
How strange it seems that the idea that loving one another
Could ever be seen as radical
I memorialize how bodies in anguish can still dance
Tangoing in time with the pulse of the city
The sense of strangers becoming less separated from each other.
I remember feeling the human wavelength
Thinking redemption was possible after all
As I heard a nearby protestor shout:
βThere are more neurons in the human brain than stars in the sky!β
***In order to be more careful of the identities of protestors in this age of AI and facial recognition software, I decided not to photograph faces this time around and wrote a poem about the experience instead. All poems and photos are copyrighted***
This an old Christmas card dated 1941 and I felt it couldn't be more apt in the light of the current world conflict. I had intended to add this to the Macro Mondays group although I came up with an alternative for that.
The wonderful St. Michael de Rupe, Brentor Church with a powdering of thawing snow.
This was my fifth location of the day after an orange juice, English breakfast and a mug of tea at Fox Tor cafe (4th stop) in Princetown. How about a sunset next!
Did you know although the foundation is 12th Century, most of the church as you see it today dates to the 13th and 14th centuries with extensive roof repair in 2016

Devon has some wonderful bluebells popping up everywhere this year. Hereβs one of my favourite woods with the setting sun casting lovely light through the trees.
This is a multistory car park in Berlin, Germany that I noticed when I was in Alexanderplatz. The 'Stop Wars' letters caught my eye, and I made sure I went over to capture it.

The Man in the Moon watches over us, and sees that Earth is a very small planet, floating in an incredibly vast Universe..
He sees that we are all here together---and we will rise up, or fall, together...
Hopefully, one day, we will share in the wisdom of our faithful Guardian....
I'd like to join the Man In The Moon in wishing us Peace! :)
Christmas Eve full moon 2015
(It was really hazy tonight, and I wasn't really able to pick up craters or very much detail---but the Man In The Moon was smiling so big, I could see him through the haze... :)
I sharpened this and did minor adjustments, but that's his real face...)
I realy love this part of the display too!
Fantasy in lights is really a awesome display. Over 8 million lights.... Hope your not getting tired of these yet, but I can't help but share. Yes Lee there was not only honking on this one, but one of the trolley drivers threatened to kick us out. Oh well, some times you just gotta do what ya gotta do. Merry Christmas everyone!
"Peace on Earth, and Good will toward men and women.
"Good will " is more than restraint and forbearance;
more complete than patience and leniency .
Beyond the bounds of clemency,
self-restraint, or an act of temperance;
it is a gift given one by one, heart and soul, to all humankind. - FD

Christmas decorations are done on the weekend after Thanksgiving EXCEPT for the Creche. This happens on the evening a week before Christmas Eve (last night) accompanied by the singing of O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.
MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIENDS!
