The neck lace cravat/tie/whatever took a couple of retries. When I was just about finished, I finally remembered this was the original design I had imagined anyway. I started trying to get too fancy - the first one had a nice curve, with boning and lacing and bows - and then I wondered why I was being so technical? Drr! (Got it cut, but not sewed.). Then I thought to make a big long tie with lace - realized I didn't have enough lace to do both ends and that would make it too puffy anyway. So I cut that up - put velcro around the back neck and just sewed the one lacey end to the front middle. Ta-Da! Don't I look like a skinny Pavarati here???
The holiday gathering degenerates into a "name that person" sort of charades game--I think my mother was acting out Pavarati. This was a big year in the family for birthdays, Mom and Dad both turned 80.
Batsakes Hat Shop - Cincinnati, OH
Went into this amazing hat shop and talked to the owner for an hour.
He's owned the place for 57 years. "You know what's wrong with
America? We don't make nothing anymore." (Imagine a thick Greek
accent.) He was good friends with Luciano Pavarati and made or sold
hats to everyone from Bill Cosby to Snoop Dog to both President Bush's.
