These Wild Grapes are growing all over our property. Some have actual grapes on them. I'm told by an expert that they are much smaller and tarter than domestic grapes. It's no surprise these are so prolific here, Tompkins County is a prime grape growing region.

A little obsessed with tree bark these days. Some of the trees peel their bark this time of year, which makes the patterns really stand out.

In the heart of the desert, where silence reigns, a lone, weathered bush clings to the shifting sands. The wind carves intricate patterns on the golden dunes, casting long shadows that dance under the endless blue sky. A testament to resilience, survival, and the quiet beauty of the arid wilderness.

My neighbor's pond is immensely beautiful! She has given us an open invitation to visit it any time before 2 p.m.

Seen from a United Airlines flight descending toward San Diego, the desert and mountains of Southern California reveal themselves as a living map of contrasts. The cracked desert floor spreads like parched skin, while dark ridges rise in sharp relief, etched with centuries of erosion. From above, the land becomes abstract art — a reminder that nature has always been the first cartographer. What story do you see written in these lines?

I don't often see these around here. Last one was in New Mexico, (see photo below) so it was nice to see another one.

We had the most beautiful snow this morning. I got to take so many photos of spring flowers covered in snow, birds on snowy branches, falling snow. By noon, the sun was shining brightly and the snow is completely gone already!

I love the starburst effect of the pine needles around the pine cones. For 116 pictures in 2016: no. 19 Patterns in Nature.

Our first vist to Bentley Wood this year and we were lucky to get this pair of small pearl bordrered fritillaries pointed out to us. They obligingly stayed put for quite some time while several people got photos. I must have taken about 50 shots as they repositioned and swayed in the breeze, making sure I at least got a decent one.

The theme on August 26, 2025: PATTERNS IN NATURE

Nature is full of fascinating patterns and structures – from delicate leaves and striking tree bark to fine sand patterns in the wind. We are looking for photos that showcase these special shapes and details. All natural motifs are allowed, large or small, color or black and white. No people or human parts may be visible in the photos.
