I was playing around with B&W today. Watched a bunch of You Tube videos on B&W and decided to try shooting in B&W for a while. This was shot on my Sony Nex 5N that I picked up on KEH, rather cheap. The 5N was my first mirrorless camera. It fits your hand perfectly and is an APSC sensor. I used creative mode B&W and increased the contrast to max. Neat to see the B&W conversion on your camera monitor. I also recorded a RAW file as well as the B&W JPEG. This is a shot of my desk knob that I developed in Topaz. Loved the patterns that emerged in the brass reflections.

The process of moulting often reveals intermediate plumages that have a curious pattern. Thus, this black-headed gull (Chroicocepahlus ridibundus) shows us a particular pattern in the moult of the feathers on its head before turning completely white.

This is photo 4 in a set of 4 nearly identical scenes in which the rapidly moving clouds provided an ever changing illumination pattern. It was quite spectacular to watch it unfold. The scene is of the Painted Hills in the John Day Fossil Beds.

A theme that I gravitate to lately is finding geometry and patterns in nature or manmade creations.

This is the interior of the Hyatt Regency Atlanta - beautiful architecture, designed by John Portman, Jr.. It is a beautiful hotel, with many photo opportunities.

Cut the paper and copy the pattern on the piece of fabric. When I have darker fabrics I do something my grandmother taught me: I use a small soap leftover. Better than chalk.
