I don't know Nigella, but I think that she probably has to exaggerate her mannerisms for television. There might well be a producer saying "Say that again" and often it spoils people.

The Governor of the British Colony of Hong Kong, Mr Chris Patten, and his family depart Government House for the last time at about 4 pm on 30 June 1997, a few hours before the handover of Hong Kong by the United Kingdom to the People’s Republic of China. A farewell ceremony had been held in the grounds of Government House. The Governor was heading to the Royal Yacht Britannia, prior to attending the Farewell to the British Administration Ceremony in the evening and the Handover Ceremony at midnight. The photos were taken from the slope opposite which is part of the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens.

St Margaret Pattens, Great Tower Street, London
I have a fondness for this little church, which sits pleasingly on the north side of Great Tower Street. The paved area in front gives it rather a provincial air, as if we were in the main shopping street of Norwich or York, and the building itself similarly has no airs and graces. Here, where London bends towards the grim old tower, Wren turned disciplinarian and built one of the simplest, starkest patterns of his career opined Wayland Young in an uncharacteristically purple passage. Yes, it is plain, and the interior is plain too, a simple box-like nave with a north aisle beyond. Plain glass, plain benches, a plain wooded sanctuary - even the reredos is understated. And yet there is a pleasing harmony here. I thought the church well-chosen by the tramp snoring away on one of the back benches - there were no discordant excitements here to keep him awake!
But there is plenty to interest, too. At the back are the churchwardens pews for St Margaret Pattens and St Gabriel Fenchurch, and these are the only surviving examples in the City. The beadle's pew survives too, and there are hat pegs for gentlemen, and perhaps all in all no other City church still has the calm and simplicity of 18th Century London life before the Victorian storm began. Mind you, those 18th Century gentlemen might have raised an eyebrow at the succession of young women carrying large exercise balls up the north aisle on their way to a pilates class in the north gallery, now a conference room.
A patten is a kind of wooden shoe, and a window of 2000 commemorates the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers. But in fact the dedication was probably not a reference to pattenmakers at all, but to Ranulpf Peyton, a Canon of St Pauls who owned the land in this parish.

TITLE: George Downing Patten and Eva May Besse Patten

NOTES: George Downing Patten was born in 1847 and was a native of Ohio. He was a member of the Grand Army post, having served through the Civil War in an Iowa regiment. Mr. Patten moved to Pasadena around 1885, and had previously lived in Reading Kansas, where he was involved in the cattle business. Mr. Patten was mayor of Pasadena from 1898 to 1900. He was a partner in the Patten & Davies Lumber & Fuel Co., with yards in Pasadena and Los Angeles. He was vice president of the Pasadena Savings, Trust & Safe Deposit Co., a director in the First National Bank, and was also involved in the American Girl Mining Corporation. Mr. Patten was very involved with the Masons, belonging to all the local Masonic bodies, as a thirty-second degree Mason. Mr. Patten passed away on May 14, 1902 at the age of 54 (Ex-Mayor Patten dies this afternoon, 1902).

I joined Fiona Patten MP, upper house representative of the Reason Australia party, and the Friends of the Earth Yes 2 Renewables Team, to celebrate Patten's support for the Victorian Renewable Energy Target (VRET) with a solar-powered beer at the Hawkers micro brewery in Reservoir.
Since installing 190 solar panels on their rooftop, co-founder of Hawkers Beer Mazen Hajjar told us they've saved almost 40% on their electricity bill, showing action on climate change makes good business sense. Hajjar is angry and passionate about the need for #climateaction, and it was so refreshing meeting a business person who gets that it's a #climateemergency, and whose business model is based on reducing grid energy, reducing waste and recycling.
Ms Patten has shown leadership on renewable energy and climate change, and deserves recognition for working with the Daniel Andrews government to secure good oucomes. All parties should support jobs and investment in renewable energy. It's all about innovation in the energy transition under way.
All MPs should follow Patten's lead by voting yes to the VRET when it is debated in the upper house of state parliament.

John Michael Rysbrack was born in Antwerp, and trained in the Netherlands, but spent his working life in Britain. He was one of the most important sculptors active in this country in the first half of the 18th century, and specialised in portrait busts and funerary monuments. Although he never visited Italy, many of his works are clearly indebted to classical archetypes.
Four hundred eight degrees were awarded during Jacksonville State University’s Summer 2013 Commencement exercises on Friday, August 2 at JSU Stadium.
Graduating Summa Cum Laude and leading the class were top graduates Kasey Harris Friday of Rome, Ga., who earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Erin Brooke Lasser of Heflin, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing; and Lori Wilkins Patten of Anniston, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Language.
The faculty led the processional and University President Dr. William A. Meehan presented the degrees.
Commencement speaker was Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and former JSU student Rick Bragg. A 1992 Harvard University Nieman Fellow and former New York Times correspondent, Bragg has authored five books: All Over But the Shoutin', Ava's Man, The Prince of Frogtown, I Am a Soldier, Too: The Jessica Lynch Story, and The Most They Ever Had.
At the ceremony, JSU awarded Bragg with the honorary doctor of letters for his accomplishments on behalf of the citizens of Alabama.
