I adopted my cat, Mr. Meowzer, from the Humane Society as a "socialized" feral kitten. I put quotes around socialized because his feral instincts are so strong that he only accepts me as his human. My husband has tried repeatedly and in vain to gain his trust. I have spent quite a good deal of my time attempting to shape his behavior to my liking, like attempting to make him an indoor only cat, LOL. I am grateful because he keeps his patrolling to his territory which consists of my yard. He will do what he wants and he condescends to sleep inside for the night and rest close to me on the couch while I enjoy tv in the evening (his favorites are nature shows, of course).

I was set up for a long exposure in the dim predawn and foggy light before sunrise when a small flock of mergansers splashed down to my left. From there, they began a back and forth across the lake in front of me, which spoiled the lovely flat water reflections with their wakes. After a couple of blurry blob duck images on my part, I finally clued in to dramatically increase the ISO and see what would happen with this persistent dawn patrol. The result here is cropped to about half the original image. The photobombers were interesting to watch as periodically, one would dive and the rest would immediately follow. They'd all pop up together, still in line and going in the same direction, and I wondered if they directing small fish and feeding cooperatively.

This was so out of my comfort zone, I mean the green screen experience was fun, ti think I matched the lighting but trying to get the image texture to match was a disaster. Enjoy :)

Just for me to remember.

I

*green screened an image of me in FireStorm

*used LumiPro to get the blue on the right of the image, white on the left with purple coming from below, and more blue from the back

*used Corel PaintShop Pro to do most of the work

*use a script called Watercoplor.pspScript which you can get online

*tilted the image 4 degrees to the right

*saved the png image

*opened Fotor to use an Effect called Rusty

*opened the green screen image again in PSP

*layered the image over the background photo

*removed the green screen using the Magic Wand: Mode - Add, Match - Color, Tolerance - 70

*used the Erase tool to get rid of any left over green screen pixels

*Used the Deform (known as Transform in PhotoShop) to make me larger than I was in the pic

*created a .. meh photo

I only rarely manage to take photos of Filou these days. He seems to avoid the camera whenever he can. I had to hide behind the garden shed and surprise him to get this shot and one second later he darted across the lawn and disappeared in the house.

Celandine found that her morning patrols of the woodland wilds were not always done by her alone.

The daily border patrol is an important task and it's something Tofu and Filou often do together. While Tofu checks what's going on in the neighbouring gardens, Filou's job is to cover his back.

The Southern Hawker (Aeshna cyanea) has almost the size of an Emperor Dragonfly and is one of the most common dragonflies in Europe. The males are often seen patrolling along ponds or small rivers looking for females or prey. It is a very inquisitive species that will approach people, but there is no reason at all to be scared of them.

Sorry about the editing, but I was facing the sun for this perspective and it was the only way to solve the burnt out section in post processing. Should I have cloned out the flood light though?

Edit: Image replaced without the floodlight......

Back at Thursley Common yesterday, found another small pond with some water remaining .....with some dragons.

These three shots show a sequence of events with this pair of Black Darters, laying eggs in the margins of the pond.

The order Flickr put them up is not the order I uploaded....so...if you follow the numbers....it will make more sense.

This image shows the pair inflight around the water, at this point they are constantly being buzzed and harried by other suitors and other Dragons.
