Haussperlinge an Ronalds Futterstelle.

Going back to January this year I undertook a cracking hike around the Kentmere Horseshoe plus a few extra Wainwright summits. This is a view taken at the summit of the Garburn Pass which acts as the access route to the hills.

The pass of Llogara in Albania, is a picturesque mountain pass overlooking the Albanian Riviera, and for this reason it is also known as a scenic spot to admire the Albanian Riviera from above in height to 1072 metres. It is a play on words, or advertising, to say that here you can be between the sky and the sea. According to some historians, Caesar came here to battle with Pompey Dureazzo.

Just a few more from an amazing couple of days exploring the Peak District.

The morning of day 1 was spent at Winnats Pass watching the inversion in the valley. Just fabulous!

Beautiful Ebbetts pass during the morning hours. The light from the rising sun was just about to crest over the valley. Luckily the tamarack fire did not touch this area.

Needle Pass is best viewed directly on the natural bridge. I started my climb just before daylight began to break...and I was lucky enough to catch this wonderful fog.

Very little traffic in the Llanberis pass.

This tanker, the "Signal Alpha", is gliding through Aransas Pass, a channel connecting Corpus Christi Bay and the Gulf of Mexico at the city of Port Aransas, Texas. It has just left the port of Corpus Christi, carrying a load of crude oil to the Port of Fawly, U.K.

The Eurasian tree sparrow (Passer montanus) is a passerine bird in the sparrow family with a rich chestnut crown and nape, and a black patch on each pure white cheek. The sexes are similarly plumaged, and young birds are a duller version of the adult. This sparrow breeds over most of temperate Eurasia and Southeast Asia, where it is known as the tree sparrow, and it has been introduced elsewhere including the United States, where it is known as the Eurasian tree sparrow or German sparrow to differentiate it from the native unrelated American tree sparrow. Although several subspecies are recognised, the appearance of this bird varies little across its extensive range...

Even though I live only 10 miles from Scotland, last weekend was the first time I'd ventured across the border since the Coronavirus restrictions were introduced in March of last year.

I managed to capture the amazing A1 Locomotive of 60163 Tornado hauling the Northern Belle railtour along the West Coast Main Line, which was an added bonus as originally this leg of the railway journey was supposed to be diesel hauled until Carlisle, then picked up by 6201 Princess Elizabeth locomotive. However, after this engine recently suffered a fault with it's boiler, Tornado has been replacing it on all excursions where possible and, since it is was nearby anyway, it was able to haul this leg of the journey from Glasgow too.

I hadn't photographed along this stretch of railway before so I wasn't sure of what the viewpoints would be like, but looking at the map I thought this section looked promising and luckily it was - providing a wonderful moody backdrop with Tewsgill Hill beyond.

Walking the Haast River.

Looking down to the Hope Valley in lovely summer sunshine

Harper's Pass is located on the Te Aurora near Arthur's Pass. Before Arthur's Pass was built in the old days, Harper's Pass was one of the easier routes from New Zealand's eastern region to the treacherous west. The east and west are divided by mountains, and in these mountains even in summer the weather changes at the drop of a dime. There is a cabin not far from here, but we decided to stay near the pass this night as the area was beautiful and serene.

I spent a good portion of this night doing astro photography, and trying to capture the glow worms on the cliffs beside this river. This is much harder than you can imagine as the glow worms are in thick brush, and unlike a cave, there are many things that block and cloud your view. The stars were brilliant here as there is no noise pollution, or even airplanes to disturb you. It's one of those places in the world where you can still feel surrounded by nature without the feeling of seeing much if any human influences.

Three Gevos lead a loaded autohaul ore train through Cooya Pooya pass enroute to Cape Lambert.

This morning, we took off out of Silverton and went up to Ophir Pass. The trail was pretty smooth, and I used two-wheel drive most of the way up to the pass. On the way down, we had to use low gear because it was steep and very rough going. The views in both directions were pretty spectacular. We had a moody sky and a little bit of rain, but that made for a more dramatic sky. The only bad part on the trip was the last leg of the trail was closed to the lakes we were going to fish at. Oh well, maybe next time.

Aspen leaves changing color along Kebler Pass in Colorado.

I did a selective colour edit on this photo from Winnats Pass. Not everyone's cup of tea but I quite like them.

Turnagain Pass Alaska (9/8/21)

Thanks for your faves and comments!

Sadly I had to forgo my plan to visit covered bridges and waterfalls in southern Oregon so we could make an effort to cross 4700 foot high Siskiyou Pass between storms. It had been snowing in the morning with chains required but by the time we got there the sun was shining. We hit some flakes and fog on the other side but nothing serious.
