From 19th September till 4th October 2014 the 17th "Asian Games" took place in the South Korean city Incheon. Also in use for the event: #Riedel technology. For example: the IBC used our intercom solution #ARTIST and several key panels, for the venues our digital #PARTYLINE system was used. The 310 was introduced in 1946 for shared service, "party", lines.
The bellset 41 was required to prevent bell tinkle when the other party was dialling. There was a five core plaited cord between the bellset and telephone. Eight way terminal blocks (BT20/8) were used to extend the cord. The line was connected to the bellset.
Bellset 41s were rebuilt from old bellsets, mainly bellset 1s.
The development of the thermistor soon rendered the bellset 41 redundant, and the 310 was replaced by the 312, complete with their new-fangled thermistors. 310s were often converte to 312s. This resulted in many redundant bellset 41s which are now the most commonly available GPO bellsets.
310s, without the bellset, can easily be rewired for operation on today's telephone lines. Of course, the call exchange button is non-functional (there are no shared-service lines anymore). However, this example has been wired so that both the bells in the 'phone and the bellset are operational. They are controlled by a slugged relay in the bellset.
Two cords and a impressive BT20/8 terminal block connect the bellset to the 'phone.
