THE EVENING NEWS
Catalytic confrontations
Calculated crawl,
Embryonic isolations,
Future free-for-all.
Energetic exhortations,
Apoplectic brawl,
Catatonic saturation,
Isometric balls.
Egocentric salutation,
Fatalistic fall,
Megalithic mumbo jumbo,
Paganistic pall.
Pugilistic palpitation,
Excavated sprawl,
Perspiration aggravation,
Aspirated wall.
Ammunition malnutrition,
Superstition stall,
California concentrated,
Captivated thrall.
Bound and ground,
Then taken down,
By the very best-
With one more show
Worth watching,
And then we’re headed west.
Recreation generation,
By the book denomination,
Families filled with hesitation,
RVs racked for roaming.
Picking up the pieces,
Laid down on the land,
With wasted wealth and watersheds,
And regions raped by man.
Calibration castigations,
Asymmetric aberrations,
Guided tours with revelations,
Ratted out and ruined.
Catastrophic congregations,
Commutated castings,
Calvinistic computations,
Debonair and prancing.
Altruistic aspirations,
Stoned, bemoaned abbreviations,
Terrified with trepidations,
Gnomes long gone and gassed!
Honed and cloned then overthrown,
Granted one last wish-
Celebrated, then negated-
Dangling near the dish!
Partisan un principles,
In petrifying packs-
With news and views
And loop-de-loops,
And stab-them-in-the-backs.
Ready for the ruckus,
Sitting at the shrine,
Thought they really
Had the goods,
Now listen to the whine.
Thought they had it marketed,
Cornered and refined,
Around the town
The lie unwound
And then they lost their mind.
Settling to the bottom,
They slid to lower ground,
Between the lines and valentines,
some lost their royal crowns.
Terroristic tinkering,
Tumbling and tinkling,
Fundamental farkles
Helpful and home grown.
Patriotic particles,
Hidden in the articles,
Compact and post partial,
Buried to the bone.
Vacuumed packed
And gunny-sacked,
Pre-segmented squalls,
Appalachian apparitions,
Headed to the malls.
Fevered and fantastic men,
Marching to the moon,
With masticating matriarchs,
In subcutaneous swoon.
Breasts blown up beautiful,
Complicated castings,
Fallen faces on the floor,
Mesmerized for masking.
Sacrificial sublimations,
Surrogates sublime,
Tetrahedral analgesic,
Sentimental crimes.
Pawing, pungent prisoners,
Soothing, sexy swine-
Sows and cows and sinning sons,
Tasting tempting wines.
Navigation nuances,
Nuptials by Nair,
Feudalistic fragrances,
Held up with heavy hair.
Practical imbalances,
Factory un repairs,
New wave cold and chemical friends,
Facts blown up with air.
Salivating swindlers,
Solo Simon says,
Highfalutin prostitution,
Fixed up with the Feds.
Sports and courts and teasing torts,
Women going wild-
Dow Jones Average hemorrhage,
Help the homeless child.
Down the daunting highway,
Less than overnight,
Covering ground without a sound,
Filtered by first light.
Lazy lit up lethargy,
Loosed by lying lips,
Bought the farm in small degrees,
Then sailed a sinking ship.
Galvanizing garrisons,
Gathering at the line,
Pushed ahead though nearly dead,
They won it one more time.
Tested in the tumult,
On solid ground they stand,
Groping with the changer,
Positioned close at hand.
Nightly, brightly flickering,
Turn the clicker off-
Before you go,
Don’t miss the show,
An evening totally lost!

The Spomenik Database was set up in 2016 by writer, history hobbyist and travel enthusiast Donald Niebyl to act as a comprehensive online resource for the most significant and notable of the abstract & modernist World War II monuments built in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from roughly 1960 to 1990 (structures commonly referred to as 'Spomeniks'), which are now, after the breakup of that country in the 1990s, scattered across the present-day regions of Croatia, Slovenia, N. Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia i Herzegovina and Montenegro.
he monument at the spomenik complex in Zaostrog, Croatia (on the Makarska Riviera) commemorates the local fighters of the People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia and those who fell during the National Liberation War (WWII).
Currently, the monument is in reasonably good shape and appears to be well maintained and kept-up. It is observed and visited by many people every day, mostly as a virtue of the monument itself existing in the center of a heavily trafficked tourist area within the town of Zaostrog

This former communist monument - holding the remains of partisan fighters - once featured an eternal flame burning at the center point. Today it’s just a cold concrete void, not a million matches could bring back the fire.

Inaugurated on October 18, 2000, this monument entitled "Women are Persons!" is a tribute to Nellie McClung, Irene Parlby, Emily Murphy, Louise McKinney and Henrietta Muir Edwards. Known as the Famous Five, these women won the "Persons" Case, a 1929 court ruling which legally declared women as persons under the British North America Act and made them eligible for appointment to the Canadian Senate
The larger-than-life sculptures by Edmonton artist Barbara Paterson were donated to the Government of Canada by the Famous 5 Foundation. They show the five women celebrating their important legal victory in characteristic poses. An empty chair adds an interactive feature to the monument that invites passers-by to join the group. The newspaper with the headline "Women are Persons" that Nellie McClung is holding reflects some of the actual headlines of newspapers of the day.
Nellie L. McClung (1873-1951), novelist, journalist, suffragette and temperance worker. She was a member of the Alberta legislature, the only woman on the Dominion War Council, and the first woman on the CBC Board of Governors.
Irene Parlby (1868-1965), suffragette and politician. She was elected president of the women's branch of the United Farmers of Alberta in 1916 and became a member of the Alberta legislature in 1921. She was still a member of Parliament at the time of the Persons Case.
Emily G. Murphy (1868-1933), instigator of the Persons Case, writer, and first woman magistrate in the British Empire. She pioneered married women's rights, was National President of the Canadian Women's Press Club 1913-1920, vice-president of the National Council of Women and first president of the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada.
Henrietta Muir Edwards, (1849-1931), journalist, suffragist and organizer, fought for equal rights for wives, mothers' allowances and women's rights. She started the Working Girls' Association in Montréal in 1875, a forerunner of the YWCA. Later, while living in Alberta, she compiled two works on Alberta and federal laws affecting women and children.
Louise McKinney (1868-1931), politician and temperance campaigner. She was president of the Dominion Women's Christian Union and elected to the Alberta legislature in 1917 as representative of the non-partisan league.

My digital hand painting, elaborated from my previous painting "Fragile" (Crystal Wings), from an initial photo of the bottom of a crystal glass by Richard Harvey. This time I could not resist in bringing back my deconstructed painting again into a circular/spheric shape, with lots of adds-on ...
I will probably perfection it in the next few days but I preferred to stop the work and publish it suitably in the right date.

The Monument to the Fallen Fighters, or Moslavina Partisan Detachment, was made by Croatian sculptor Zoran Bakić and was unveiled in 1988. It is overshadowed by more well-known monuments in the same area, so this is as much information as I was able to find.

👋 Thank you all for pushing this photo into Explore at number 355 at one point in time. Yay!
The Tjentište war memorial commemorates the Yugoslav Partisan victory in the 1943 Battle of Sutjeska. Tito had memorials erected all over Yugoslavia in the 60s and 70s, which you've probably seen in those listicles titled "16 Amazing Abandoned Communist Monuments You Won't Believe!" Some really big-shot sculptors and architects designed them, and yes, I agree with the hyperbole of the internet. They are amazing.
I'd seen photos of Tjentište, but nothing could prepare me for the experience of driving 45 minutes on a winding mountain road (that wasn't technically wide enough for two cars but was two-way nonetheless) in a slow drizzle to the semi-maintained Sutjeska National Park in Republika Srpska. After a while the houses disappeared and we were surrounded by what could have been Tolkien's inspiration for the Misty Mountains.
And then there it was.
I have to give Tito credit -- the guy knew how to make a splash. Photos can't convey the majesty of this monument. First of all it is HUGE. Much bigger than I anticipated. It's strategically placed on a hill with an artfully designed staircase leading up to it, and you cannot get the full effect unless you climb it and look at it from the back. The rain may have hampered our driving, but I wouldn't have wanted to see Tjentište in any other weather. The mist and the drizzle were so atmospheric. I'm not sure if it felt more like another planet or another time, but either way, it was a singular experience.

Vautour fauve
Gyps fulvus
Photographed by a German soldier of the 1st Regiment Brandenburg. Bridge most likely blown-up by local partisans.
The Vila Bled is in a majestic park right on the shore of Lake Bled. The villa was constructed in 1947 on the site of a former royal summer home and subsequently served for decades as one of President Tito’s residences before being turned into a boutique 1950s-style hotel.
What serves today as the reception hall, used to be before the Tito's private movie theater. The room is decorated all around with frescoes (by Slavko Pengov), telling the story of Tito's partisan army from 1941 to 1945.

The museum's focus is on the war against the Italian and German occupiers in 1939-1944, hence most exhibited weapons are of German and Italian origin, either seized during the war or left by German and Italian troops afterwards.
A repost of an older sketch of Partisan, the restaurant at 112 Micklegate, York to celebrate having lunch with a couple of former colleagues. An event which would have been fairly commonplace before the Corona virus pandemic, it was a big step forward from our last meeting over Zoom. Quite a lot of catching up to do, excellent food and an unhurried atmosphere meant we almost forgot the main reason for the meet job was to discuss a commission they want to do.
I did the sketch some time ago while waiting for the same colleagues to join me and another retired colleague for a regular gathering in the Priory pub across the road, the subject of a recent pencil study. The kitchen of that is still closed, a sign that the pandemic nightmare is still casting its shadow.
Some of you may have noticed my updates on the X-wing build I’ve had in the works, I’ve used IG Stories for that. Well, the model is now done and I’m just going to show it to you as it is.
The catch with this is that the model is a vintage 1977 stamped first toy wave MPC model. It’s inaccurate in many ways but as it turned out at some point, screen accurate. ILM used some of these kit models for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The model has been with me for four decades, I actually began this rebuild in 2013, I only resumed it now and it occurred to me to make a little update to the paint scheme.
I like the black and white Partisan paint scheme seen only briefly in Rogue One. I wish they had ended up using them a little more. I really wanted to have one because they have no personified markings. No ”red three”, or such, these are more anonymous. I like that, there is more mystery in it.
This was supposed to be a fun carefree build with no serious ambition and it almost was. I couldn’t help making some modifications. I ditched the wonky plastic wing cannons and made new ones from brass and aluminium. The landing gear is also scratchbuilt except for the landing pads in the rear, they’re original MPC. I thought this would have been a fun detail but it turned out the old pads are terribly off compared to the real thing. I may fix that some day. The wings can open and close and the engines have magenta coloured led lights. Oh, and the cockpit has some simple fiber optics, you know, just in case.
This thing is now ready for some action. I’ll photograph it soon but we’re having our summer holiday right now, it limits my time with the camera and computer.
This spomenik complex at Dražgoše, Slovenia, in the Gorenjska region, commemorates the efforts of the Cankarjev Battalion at the 1942 Battle of Dražgoše, where Partisans fought a snowy winter against Germans, while also attempting to protect local peasants from deportation.

Knoxville is a city in the U.S. state of Tennessee, and the county seat of Knox County. The city had an estimated population of 186,239 in 2016 and a population of 178,874 as of the 2010 census, making it the state's third largest city after Nashville and Memphis. Knoxville is the principal city of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area, which, in 2016, was 868,546, up 0.9 percent, or 7,377 people, from to 2015. The KMSA is, in turn, the central component of the Knoxville-Sevierville-La Follette Combined Statistical Area, which, in 2013, had a population of 1,096,961.
First settled in 1786, Knoxville was the first capital of Tennessee. The city struggled with geographic isolation throughout the early 19th century. The arrival of the railroad in 1855 led to an economic boom. During the Civil War, the city was bitterly divided over the secession issue, and was occupied alternately by both Confederate and Union armies.Following the war, Knoxville grew rapidly as a major wholesaling and manufacturing center. The city's economy stagnated after the 1920s as the manufacturing sector collapsed, the downtown area declined and city leaders became entrenched in highly partisan political fights. Hosting the 1982 World's Fair helped reinvigorate the city, and revitalization initiatives by city leaders and private developers have had major successes in spurring growth in the city, especially the downtown area.
Knoxville is the home of the flagship campus of the University of Tennessee, whose sports teams, called the "Volunteers" or "Vols", are extremely popular in the surrounding area. Knoxville is also home to the headquarters of the Tennessee Valley Authority, the Tennessee Supreme Court's courthouse for East Tennessee and the corporate headquarters of several national and regional companies. As one of the largest cities in the Appalachian region, Knoxville has positioned itself in recent years as a repository of Appalachian culture and is one of the gateways to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Leonard Norman Cohen CC GOQ (September 21, 1934 – November 7, 2016) was a Canadian singer, songwriter, musician, poet, novelist, and painter. His work explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality, and personal relationships. Cohen was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was a Companion of the Order of Canada, the nation's highest civilian honor. In 2011, Cohen received one of the Prince of Asturias Awards for literature and the ninth Glenn Gould Prize.
Cohen was born on September 21, 1934 in Westmount, Quebec, an English-speaking area of Montreal, into a middle-class Canadian Jewish family. His mother, Marsha (Masha) Klonitsky was the daughter of a Talmudic writer, Rabbi Solomon Klonitsky-Kline, of Lithuanian Jewish ancestry. His paternal grandfather, whose family had moved from Poland to Canada, was Lyon Cohen, the founding president of the Canadian Jewish Congress. His father, Nathan Cohen, owned a substantial clothing store and died when Cohen was nine years old. The family observed Orthodox Judaism, and belonged to Congregation Shaar Hashomayim, to which Cohen retained connections all his life. On the topic of being a Kohen, Cohen told Richard Goldstein in 1967, "I had a very Messianic childhood. I was told I was a descendant of Aaron, the high priest."

The Coalition of Boynton West Residential Associations (COBWRA) is a not-for-profit civic organization representing the residential communities in unincorporated Palm Beach County west of the City of Boynton Beach.
COBWRA member communities are homeowners associations and condo associations. Each community has a delegate and up to three alternates who vote when the delegate is unavailable.
It is Coalition policy to represent the interests of all the people within the COBWRA service area—even if a community is not a member of COBWRA. This includes proposed communities with no residents yet and brand new communities where they have not yet been turned over to the residents by the developer and are unable to join COBWRA.
Breaking the Ring is a monument in the Pleso Airport area of Zagreb, Croatia. It commemorates the acts of sabotage ("breaking") committed by Partisan units on Axis-controlled airports in the Zagreb (the "ring") area during WWII. At the same time, it also commemorates the liberation of Zagreb in 1945. It was officially unveiled to the public in 1978. In 1997, a small plaque was added to the monument to commemorate two local fighters from Pleso who died during that war.
The primary element of this monument complex is an 11m-tall, square-shaped monument with a 4m-wide circular opening at its centre, creating a stylised, fractured-ring sculpture. However, the top of the ring does not connect and is offset by about 1m.

The Forest Brothers were Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian partisans who waged a guerrilla war against the Soviet occupation of the Baltic states starting in 1944. These countries were once part of the Russian empire until they broke away in 1918 after centuries of Russian rule. However this new freedom wouldn't last as they were caught between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. What was worse for them was as part of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact of 1939 between the two states, it was agreed that the Soviet Union would be allowed to occupy the Baltic states.
When WWII broke out, the Soviets would move in and occupy these states up until the German invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941. Many saw this as yet another foreign occupation of their countries and despised the fact many would be conscripted into the German army. It wasn't until 1944 when the Soviet Union would "liberate" the Baltic states and occupied them once again. Many of those who were conscripted into the Baltic SS divisions fled into the vast forests of the Baltics along with others who wanted to fight against the Soviets. The people of the Baltics were angry at not only the occupy, but the Soviet conscription efforts which swelled their ranks.
The guerrilla war that followed consisted of killing Soviet soldiers and communist sympathizers, sabotage, freeing anti communist civilians and fighter and printing underground newspapers. They would also receive help from American, British, and Swedish intelligence agencies. This fighting would last from 1944 to 1956 as the Soviets would be successful in eradicating many resistance cells (in part thanks to Kim Philby, a communist infiltrator in M16). There would be some that would manage to evade capture until the 1980s when the Baltic states were ready to breakaway peacefully from the Soviet Union. Today they are remembered for their heroic actions in fighting against the red menace.
I have several builds in the works which will be posted soon. I have some scenes still that ill be posted in between to keep y'all entertained.
