I enjoy writing this book. I'm having a great time meeting and interviewing people and picking their brains. I love the research. Today I researched something Warren Brown told me the other day—even got a dietitian to speak about it. There are frustrating things, too, like people who don't return their emails or who patch me through to person after person, passing the buck. Still, I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm very lucky!
But the truth is that I'm probably borderline ADD. Oh, I finish everything I start, and early, too! I just seem to need a lot of projects going at the same time. It's why I was always a writer and a house painter and a mosaicist and a graphic designer and a college English professor. I used to tell people, myself included, that I did all those things because doing one of them didn't pay me enough. It's sort of true. I just couldn't focus on one thing for too long.
I quit teaching to work on the book. And I can't paint anymore because of my hands. I don't have time to get design clients, though I do whatever work comes my way. I write other stuff occasionally, but writing is writing. I can't start a mosaic project because it's too time consuming.
So I take pictures. I take so many pictures that I find myself posting crappy ones. I post just to hear your voice. I don't care about my voice. I hear my voice all day. All I can muster on your pictures is "nice!" these days.
I'm lonely. I work here all alone. I'm not out with my clients or in an office or teaching students. I'm here all day. All freakin' day.
I don't ask for a lot from my friends, what few friends I have. When they call me, I come. I give good advice. I help people over hard times. But it seems that when I ask for something, which is oh-so-rare, my friends are too busy. Some of them can't even spare five minutes at the kids' school—they have to race to appointments. Five minutes!
So I tend to think of Flickr as my social place. I rely on virtual strangers to be my virtual friends, so that I can feel connected to other humans.
But then Flickr begins to feel like a popularity contest, too. And I can't compete. I have never been popular. I've always been too much on the fringe. So some people get multiple pages of comments, and I start to feel here like I feel in real life. Even though it's my own fault—a.) for looking to Flickr for something more and b.) for comparing myself to others.
So thanks for asking and participating in the last picture, the more cryptic one. I know it didn't make sense to most of you.
So the part about mediocrity didn't have anything to do with pastries or misspellings on boxes. It was about my fear that, in my loneliness, I will post pictures just for the sake of staying on your mind. "Don't forget me!" I seem to need to say.
My mom said to me yesterday that she didn't know what she would do without her girlfriends.
God. I know what I would do. I'm doing it.
Just once, I would like to have a girlfriend who could squeeze me in, who didn't need me to help her shop for a dress but then begged off when it was my turn. I would like to be the one who gets the phone call rather than makes it.

Midnight premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two. A stressful, confusing night as far as seats in the theatre went, but the movie was beautiful and I cried the entire last hour. I mean, our entire theatre was sobbing, it was insane. But dsigdsjfgs perfect way to end it and I feel so proud :')

I found a second rock , not as large as the first ,
While #cleaningup #weeds and looking for #rocks to #throwaway in the #backyard, I #unearthed a #massiverock
I dug my way around the rock and moved it out of the hole slowly to the top, where it will stay for now until I find a new location.
The rock must be 200-300 pounds!
