Most cities want to encourage people to linger in their downtowns so they buy more, eat more and pay for more entertainment. Not so in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, where officials have installed signs warning folks to stay away after 5:30 p.m.
This sign is directly in front of an historic theater that's still in operation (and just across the street from City Hall). These kinds of policies kill any chance of life in a city, and sends a clear message to anyone thinking of stopping by: go away. One thing is certain: this policy has been very effective.
