I went by this building several times before I even thought about going in. For some reason, it never occurred to me that I might actually be able to go inside and take photos! Of course, I really wanted to go inside, so I was happy when Curtis told me that it’s no problem to get in there.
Next time, I think I’d like to go on a private tour and get some special angles and whatnot. I did get in trouble for using my tripod, but not bad trouble. Just a little trouble. A little trouble ain’t so bad…

Palais Garnier - Paris Opera House, Paris, France
This is the result of 5 different Row files exposed differently (1.6s, 3.2s, 6s, 13s, 25s) with fixed focal length at 10mm and ISO 100 and f/9. Then processed in photomatix and the resulted HDR image was then returned back to Lightroom 4 where the exiting stuff started to happen and honestly I didn't think I'll get such a nice result after like an hour of processing.
If you feel there is something I missed, I'll be grateful to know .. ;)

View on large please!
After a few sunshine shots, I thought I'd drop in another interior shot today. Paris has it's fair share of interiors, most notably the Opera House which has some fantastic architecture.
Charles Garnier wanted this foyer to resemble the gallery of a classical chateau. The ceiling was painted by Paul Baudry and portrays themes from the history of music. It is dominated by the lyre, which is also found on other things, such as the heating grates and doorknobs.
Speaking of interiors, I recently post a shot of La Sainte-Chapelle. I was asked if I wanted to sell this photo, so I looked at getting a property release to allow this. after an email conversation with the historic monument people in France, they finally told me that they wanted 1100 Euros for the release. 1100 Euros! I declined the offer and I'm no longer going to sell the work.
This, plus the Eiffel Tower copyright silliness, shows me that the French have the wrong attitude to not only photography, but also to their architecture as a whole. I can understand having a nominal fee for these things, but this is simply ridiculous. Anyway, this photo is packed full of detail, so please view this larger. (Press L)

Isn’t this room amazing? It’s not in the main part of the Paris Opera House, but it had the most ornate and Inception-esque room I’ve seen in a while. I took this photo while in the middle of experimenting with the Nikon fisheye lens. It seemed to fit the bill for these ornate grand locations that are still in a relatively confined space.

I stole this photo-taking idea from Matt Knisely! At first, I would lay down on my back and try to get the shot. But that was frustrating and bothersome. Then I saw Matt just put his camera on the ground with a timer then run away! So that’s what I did to get this shot… although it took a few takes to get it to line up right…

Another it was one year ago today shot from France. It was incredibly hot in Paris but Mary wanted to do some shopping and we wandered round the Grands Boulevards quarter of the city . Cannot remember if we bought anything . We did pass the Palais Garnier the home of the Paris Opera to find an excellent cafe .I thought the opera house was worth a shot though the bottom of the building had to be cropped out as there was so much traffic . I would love to see a performance at the Palais Garnier the interior looks amazing and the ceiling was painted by Marc Chagall
A little info
The Palais Garnier is a 1,979-seat opera house at the Place de l'Opéra in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, France. It was built for the Paris Opera from 1861 to 1875 at the behest of Emperor Napoleon III. Initially referred to as "le nouvel Opéra de Paris" (the new Paris Opera), it soon became known as the Palais Garnier, "in acknowledgment of its extraordinary opulence" and the architect Charles Garnier's plans and designs, which are representative of the Napoleon III style. It was the primary theatre of the Paris Opera and its associated Paris Opera Ballet until 1989, when a new opera house, the Opéra Bastille, opened at the Place de la Bastille. The company now uses the Palais Garnier mainly for ballet. The theatre has been a monument historique of France since 1923.
The Palais Garnier has been called "probably the most famous opera house in the world, a symbol of Paris like Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre. This is at least partly due to its use as the setting for Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera and, especially, the novel's subsequent adaptations in films and the popular 1986 musical

You've got to love a good staircase and the Paris Opera House has plenty of those! Sadly you're not allowed to use a tripod, but we all know that just means you can use a tripod as long as no-one notices you. I'm a big fan of mixing interiors and exteriors when I visit a city. Interiors are great for during the day or if the weather is pretty bad. That can be my travel photography tip of the day.
Designed by Charles Garnier, Palais Garnier was the primary home of the Paris Opera from 1875 until 1989. Upon its inauguration during 1875, the opera house was named officially the Académie Nationale de Musique - Théâtre de l'Opéra. It retained this title until 1978 when it was re-named the Théâtre National de l'Opéra de Paris.
After the opera company chose the Opéra Bastille as their principal theatre upon its completion during 1989, the theatre was re-named as the Palais Garnier, though Académie Nationale de Musique is still sprawled above the columns of its front façade. In spite of the change of names and the Opera company's relocation to the Opéra Bastille, the Palais Garnier is still known by many people as the Paris Opéra, as have all of the several theatres which have served as the principal venues of the Parisian Opera and Ballet since its initiation.
This building is the inspiration and setting for the novel, The Phantom of the Opera (Le Fantôme de l'Opéra).
This photo looks far cooler when viewed large on black. (Press L)

Wonderful #psychedelicportrait shoot and great conversation with Canadian production designer Michael Levine whose work is extraordinarily spare and pithy. So beautiful! Turns out we knew loads of people in common in the early 1980s. Michael has worked internationally in Opera, Dance and Theatre for the past forty years - most recently on Madam Butterfly for Bregenz Festival; Turandot Amsterdam; Peter Grimes for Royal Opera, Paris Opera, Teatro Real.
Colours were achieved in studio with mild tweaks in post production.

The city's true colors are revealed after the sun has set. One of Paris' beautiful landmarks, the Palais Garnier which houses the world-famous Opera, stands prominently on top of buildings on the busy stretch of Boulevard Haussmann.

The Al Alam Royal Palace: "قصر العلم العامر" is one of the most beautiful buildings of the city. The serene sky above forms a natural canopy and it is really a nice sight to take pictures.
The grace and chasteness of the Al Alam Royal Palace is a thing to marvel at. It is one of the most exclusive specimen of art and architecture of the whole country of Oman. The Al Alam Royal Palace in Muscat speaks wonders through its simplicity. The tall columns of the palace bask in the golden sunshine and reflect the turquoise blue waters of the calm ocean. The majesty of this somber palace is definitely a breathtaking view to feast your eyes on.
The Al Alam Royal Palace in Muscat is the official estate of the ruler of Oman, Sultan Qaboos. Visitors are allowed until the gates of this grand palace only. They are not allowed to enter the interiors of the Al Alam Royal Palace in Muscat .
The Palace is used for official functions and receiving distinguished visitors and in January 2012, the Sultan received Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands at Al Alam Palace during her state visit to Oman. Wikipedia

The world premiere of Alexei Ratmansky's ballet Lost Illusions, with a new score by Leonid Desyatnikov, set and costume design by Jérôme Kaplan and light design by Vincent Millet, took place at the Bolshoi Theatre on April 24, 2011. This 3-act ballet uses themes from the libretto by Vladimir Dmitriev (based on the novel by Honoré de Balzac), originally written for the 1936 production at the Kirov Theatre, with choreography by Rostislav Zakharov and music by Boris Asafiev.

As I placed my Canon on the tripod, i found this strange angle where The cam was pointing almost up to the sky.
I decided to take 5 different exposures (-2,-1,0,+1,+2) @ f3.2 where i read that the lens is at its sharpest point.
The shots were then bracketed in Photomatix by Tone mapping. Then enhanced further in lightroom & added the signature in photoshop ^_^
please if there is anything i could improve in the shot, please let me know. I'm still a beginner in creating HDR. actually this is the first shot with 5 exposure i created.. Thank youuuu :D

I thought this is a good angel to shoot the magnificent mosque from. It was quite a distance, so i switched to my nifty fifty, the 50mm lens. and yeah it framed what i wanted perfectly, so the shot above is not cropped at all.
The soft effect on the sky is actually minimizing the clarity in Lightroom to some extend. i thought, since it's a silhouette shot, It would be dreamy to have soft sky.
If there is anything i could improve, please let me know... I wanna keep learning.. ;)

The shot was taking in a windy day, just before sunset where this giant cruise was leaving the sultan Qaoos port in the capital Muscat in Oman.
It was hard to get a clean shot due to the showers from the waves, showering both me & my cam. i had to stop and clean the lens & the grad ND4 filter after each shot.
I set the cam to Aperture mode :( set " f/11 for a good DOF, & ISO to 100 for best quality. However, this expanded the exposure to 0.6 second!! this time is considered long when shooting a moving subject like the ship in the shot. as you can notie, the blurred ship is quite noticable!! I wished that I've had a better chance to capture it with faster shutter speed... maybe next time :D
"Port Sultan Qaboos is one of the main commercial ports in Oman. It is Oman's premier maritime gateway, enjoying a prime location in the politically stable sultanate. Situated in a natural harbour 250 km south of the Strait of Hormuz on the Indian Ocean coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Port Sultan Qaboos' location makes it an ideal hub, not only for the Persian Gulf but also the Indian sub-continent and markets in East and South Africa." Wikipedia
