Monochrome image of the Old Swan Inn (always known locally as Ma Pardoes) at Netherton in the heart of the Black Country, where the anchor was made for the Titanic.
The famous Bessemer trio is about to duck under Interstate 79 at Kimbles Trestle in Pardoe, Pennsylvania as they head south for Butler. The two CN SD40-2W's are destined for interchange with the B&P there and will be transported off the property.

CN SD70M-2 #8804 leads a southbound freight of stone and ore on the former Bessemer at Pardoe. The is the first trip over the line for this unit. Another SD70M-2 #8876 was a rear DPU on this train.
A Southbound ore train crosses the old Bessemer trestle in Pardoe, PA on its way to North Bessemer. A late fall snow lingers long past it's due and Pennsylvania already feels like January.
A Clear signal waits for a northbound train on the former Bessemer & Lake Erie at Filer North, between Grove City and Pardoe on a foggy and cold December night.
Symbolica | Botanicum 12/12/2019 16h12
The third scene of Symbolica is Botanicum where you pass thru the combination of a horticulture greenhouse and aquarium. The riders are face to face with the so-called Fabelvis, a Fable Fish.
Botanicum
Through a short connecting corridor and a corner with rock work, the Fantasy sailors enter one after the other into a Victorian greenhouse with a vaulted roof and ornate trusses: the Botanicum. Special plants such as Flos Reijnders and Flora Magica grow along the columns and in large pots, which open and close their petals. The light inside dims and the magic shops spread out over the glass panels, after which we see that there is no outside air behind it, but a kind of underwater cave. A great mythical creature that looks a bit like a whale, it swims down from the height and makes whale sounds. The friendly-looking animal with its tail (accidentally) breaks the glass, after which more and more cracks appear and water runs between the trusses and panels. The light makes a short circuit through the water and falls out. Quickly the fantasy float drives out of the Botanicum, a path where Pardoes points the way to a safer place among a number of plants: the Gates Passage that gives access to the Treasures Boudoir, the Music Salon and the Heroes Cabinet.

I had the luck to shoot this picture from the newest attraction Symbolica in themepark 'De Efteling" at closing time of the park. Normally lots of people are in front of this castle waiting to enter.

I've been a fan of Lego for as long as I can remember, yet I've never visited Legoland. I've never even been to Disneyland, even though it isn't thà t far of. But that's okay, since as a child I've never loved a theme park more than the Efteling in the Netherlands. Its attractions are fun and responsable and the atmosphere is just so pure. They have an entire section devoted to fairy tales, but without all of the commercialism, focusing on the pure enchantment of both children and adults alike. The Efteling is where I went to dream, and I so many spots of the park are imprinted in my brain together with the fondest memories.
That made the entrance of the Efteling, the "House of the Five Senses" the perfect subject for the "Architecture faves" Rebrick contest past month. The building is so iconic to me and exemplifies the sense of wonder you get on entering the park, that I was prepared to struggle a lot to get its curvy shapes captured with bricks on a limited scale. In the end, it took me a month of puzzling with bricks to get the shape decently close to the couple of good references I found (look here for the best pictures). It was a very intense, sometimes frustrating but in the end utterly rewarding building experience that made me very grateful for the recent parts we got, like the 1x1 round plates with bars underneath or to the side. It being a digital build made it more difficult than if I would have built it in real life, I think. Not only is it difficult to wrap your head around complex angles when you don't see them in 3D, but it often took me at least half an hour just to get the angles of joints right in order to avoid collisions (if the hitboxes were being reasonable...), and I would have loved to have used illegal connections all over the place... In the end though, nearly everything is connected legally and I'm very happy with the result. Definitely something unique in the Architecture line.
I'm very proud that this creation earned me a place as runner up in the last Rebrick contest, but most of all you all enjoy it and experience the wonder! If anybody is interested in the techniques or wants to build it, you can find the LDD model here. It features both the model seen in the pictures as a slightly altered model with a different base that should be more practical to build. Anyway, thank you all for looking!
Efteling Grand Hotel 05/04/2023 10h10
A construction update of the largest and most stately hotel De Efteling has ever had. Seen from the side of the Pardoes Promenade. The groundwork seems to be completed and construction could go vertical at any time.
Efteling Grand Hotel
It will be the largest hotel in the history of the theme park. The intention is that from 2024 visitors can stay overnight near the main entrance, on the current Dwarrelplein. The 50 million euro project was confirmed in January 2022.
The complex should feel "grand and inviting", according to Efteling. An "impressive building" of seven floors, with a 106 meter wide facade, is being built. One of the eye-catchers will be a gigantic clock with a pendulum, under a green oxidized copper roof with seven towers.
There will also be a striking glass conservatory with a classic design, spread over two floors. The green square between the main entrance and the Grand Hotel is intended to provide "a pleasant place to stay for hotel guests and park visitors". Visitors will soon enter the park via a 9 meter high and 16 meter wide arcade arch. "An impressive entry", reports the Efteling.
Sander de Bruijn, known for attractions such as Raveleijn, Baron 1898, De Zes Zwanen and Sirocco, has been appointed as chief designer. He was inspired by "elements from the history of the park and by Scandinavian port cities". "In terms of design, this hotel fits in with other characteristic buildings in the Efteling, but gets its own character due to its form and function," says De Bruijn.

De Zes Dinaren
The Six Servants (Dutch: De Zes Dinaren) is a fairy tale about a prince who, with the help of six servants, is able to win the hand of a princess with a special gift. The story was recorded by the brothers Grimm in 1819 for their Kinder- und Hausmärchen under the title "Die Sechs Diener". In the Netherlands, the fairy tale is mainly known by Langnek's prominent presence in the Efteling.
In the Efteling it is the third depiction on the route in the Sprookjesbos, between the Kabouterdorp and Roodkapje. The servant Langnek has been sitting on a rock since the opening of the Sprookjesbos in 1952, stretches his neck and looks calmly around. The original design is by Anton Pieck, but the giant has had transformations over the years, mainly under the direction of Ton van de Ven. In addition to the iconic figure, since 1967, the portrayal of the fairy tale is also from a gallery with the bust of another servant from the fairy tale: Kogeloog. Under the shelter are the portraits of all six servants from the title. The story is told by Peter Reijnders.
The fairy tale opens with Langnek as one of the first 10 attractions in the Sprookjesbos (Fairytale Forest) on May 31, 1952. He then has a rather small head and a rough face that resembles a coarse woodcut. He looks very strict, almost sad for himself.

Winter Efteling 2023
The Winter Efteling takes place from November 24, 2023 to February 4, 2024. New this year are the life-size snow globes on the Ton van de Venplein and in Ruigrijk. Get in there and let it snow! That produces a real winter picture. This winter you will also see the elves from Droomvlucht on the Ton van de Venplein. They brought a music box.
Also new are the special luminous butterflies that Sander de Bruijn, chief designer of Efteling, designed last year in collaboration with ASML for the GLOW light festival. Parts of the light project 'Connecting your love' can be admired during Winter Efteling.
The Playground will also change into the attractive Warm Winter Meadow this year. Enter through the gate and discover extra entertainment and a heart-warming musical offering every day. Take a picture with Pardoes at the sleigh and Fay the Fairy and Pinocchio make it snow. Or listen to the polyphonic music of Zang en Happy. Warm up at the Bonfires, play games at the various chalets, enjoy delicious winter treats and browse through the winter souvenirs. Or skate a round on the larger skating rink in the open air.

The other side of the Pardoes Promenade next to the entrance of the 4D movie theatre Fabula.

Fabula is an attraction in Efteling. It is a 4D movie that replaced the former attraction and movie PandaDroom.
PandaDroom was last seen in November 2019. The film and technique were replaced. The pre-show was also renewed. In the post-show, the World of Animals, the animatronic of a panda was replaced by the bear and squirrel from the movie. The restaurant was also renovated and a bar was placed at the souvenir shop. Changes to the attraction were made earlier in 2019, for example, the restaurant and entrance have already been modified.
A young, grumpy bear doesn't get along well with other animals. In the film, the main characters are briefly introduced, a young bear and a squirrel. The bear is hibernating and reacts grumpily to the presence of the squirrel. The bear is not social, it does not get along well with other animals. The mythical figure, Klaas often, can manipulate dreams. He shows the bear in a dream that he can show more respect for his environment and other animals. In doing so, he is placed in different animal worlds and each time transformed into an animal from that world.
De Mister Sandman, or Klaas Vaak, is a world-famous fairytale figure, also known for the story by Hans Christian Andersen from 1842. Klaas Vaak is a well-known face in the Efteling, especially in the Bosrijk holiday park. In Bosrijk the story of Klaas often elaborated further. The Sand Castle of Klaas Often is built in the central point of the holiday park. The sand castle is in the middle of a lake, called the Lake of Dreams. According to the story, it is the residence of Klaas Vaak, the sand gnomes and the owl eagle owl. The surname 'Houdoe' is a subtle reference to the Brabant farewell greeting 'Houdoe', which can be translated into 'Keep your good'. Klaas often and his friends can be seen as entertainers in Bosrijk and during events in the park.
The 3D movie works with additional effects, making it a 4D experience. During the film, water, smell and wind are used, which makes the film more alive. These effects were also already incorporated in the predecessor Pandadroom, but have been modernized.

In addition to the construction of the new hotel at the entrance of the park, the Pardoes Promenade is being reconstructed. Apparently it will be ready this year so that the visual damage of visitors after passing the construction site is limited and people quickly become enchanted by the wonders of the Efteling.

Pardoes Promenade
The Pardoes Promenade is the broad, expansive avenue that connects the Dwarrelplein with the Hartenhof Square in front of Symbolica. The avenue was designed in unison with the former interpretation of that place, the Brink, and is executed in the visual language of the World of Pardoes. The primary goal of the Pardoes Promenade is the supply of visitors from the entrance to the various park areas, and vice versa at the end of the day. The avenue of 21 meters wide and 270 meters long thus serves as the main vein of the park. There are dozens of eye-catching bronze-colored lanterns, the colossal Wonderwachters lampposts.
The promenade was opened in 2000. It was created within the implementation of the so-called Butterfly Vision on the park, with Promenade and Brink as "body" and the four surrounding empires as colorful "wings", and is a design by landscape architect Mariëlle Kok of Grontmij in collaboration with Henny Knoet and Chris van Grinsven from the Efteling.

There is not much known about this old church. Even the locals don’t exactly know when this church was built. All I know is that it was built in the 13th century, on the ruins of a castle. As the area got more populated during the years, the people left to the foot of the mountain where the soil was more fertile and water was at hands. The town decided to built another church near the mountains, and people stopped visiting this beautiful church and it is collecting dust for many years now…

There is not much known about this old church. Even the locals don’t exactly know when this church was built. All I know is that it was built in the 13th century, on the ruins of a castle. As the area got more populated during the years, the people left to the foot of the mountain where the soil was more fertile and water was at hands. The town decided to built another church near the mountains, and people stopped visiting this beautiful church and it is collecting dust for many years now…

During the construction of Efteling Grand Hotel, it is a bit different when you enter. The Dwarrelplein (Swirl Square) has disappeared and visitors have to walk along the Vonderplas to the Pardoes Promenade.
De Efteling
The Efteling is a fantasy-themed amusement park in Kaatsheuvel in the Netherlands. The attractions are based on elements from ancient myths and legends, fairy tales, fables, and folklore.
The park was opened in 1952. It has since evolved from a nature park with a playground and a Fairytale Forest into a full-sized theme park. It now caters to both children and adults with its cultural, romantic, and nostalgic themes, in addition to its wide array of amusement rides.
It is the largest theme park in the Netherlands and one of the oldest theme parks in the world. It is twice as large as the original Disneyland park in California and antedates it by three years. Annually, the park has nearly 5 million visitors. In 2016, it was the third most visited theme park in Europe, behind Disneyland Paris and Europa-Park. Over the years, it has received over 125 million visitors.

CN southbound loaded iron ore train on the former B&LE near Pardoe, PA. Note the "69" milepost in the lower right corner, that signifies we are 69 miles from North Bessemer, the southern terminus of the former B&LE. Leading the way is 20 year old IC SD70 #1028.
This original house was build out of the funds of a generous donation in 1895. After a few years construction they started on the sanatorium.
Wich was designed as a modern sanatorium for about 60 womans. During the years the sanatorium was extended several times.
After the WW2 it housed over 180 patiants.
Now a days the sanatorium is left abandoned.

The Old Swan (also known as Ma Pardoe's) is one of the last four English home-brew pubs that remained in existence in 1974. It features an ornate Swan ceiling and standalone burner in the bar and is also home to the Olde Swan Brewery.
