[MOC] House of the Five Senses - Leaving perspective...

I've been a fan of Lego for as long as I can remember, yet I've never visited Legoland. I've never even been to Disneyland, even though it isn't thàt far of. But that's okay, since as a child I've never loved a theme park more than the Efteling in the Netherlands. Its attractions are fun and responsable and the atmosphere is just so pure. They have an entire section devoted to fairy tales, but without all of the commercialism, focusing on the pure enchantment of both children and adults alike. The Efteling is where I went to dream, and I so many spots of the park are imprinted in my brain together with the fondest memories.

 

That made the entrance of the Efteling, the "House of the Five Senses" the perfect subject for the "Architecture faves" Rebrick contest past month. The building is so iconic to me and exemplifies the sense of wonder you get on entering the park, that I was prepared to struggle a lot to get its curvy shapes captured with bricks on a limited scale. In the end, it took me a month of puzzling with bricks to get the shape decently close to the couple of good references I found (look here for the best pictures). It was a very intense, sometimes frustrating but in the end utterly rewarding building experience that made me very grateful for the recent parts we got, like the 1x1 round plates with bars underneath or to the side. It being a digital build made it more difficult than if I would have built it in real life, I think. Not only is it difficult to wrap your head around complex angles when you don't see them in 3D, but it often took me at least half an hour just to get the angles of joints right in order to avoid collisions (if the hitboxes were being reasonable...), and I would have loved to have used illegal connections all over the place... In the end though, nearly everything is connected legally and I'm very happy with the result. Definitely something unique in the Architecture line.

 

I'm very proud that this creation earned me a place as runner up in the last Rebrick contest, but most of all you all enjoy it and experience the wonder!
