Looking along the parapet on the city side! Other defensive walls are at much lower altitude. That guy rounding the bend is carrying his exhausted son. I backed into the corner against the tower until he passed, and took no further step in this direction.

Piazza della Signoria is a true open-air museum!

In it we find several statues of various periods, the most famous being the great David of Michelangelo! The largest nucleus is under the protection of the so-called Loggia dei Lanzi, or Loggia della Signoria. It was built in the 14th century in late Gothic style by Benci di Cione and Simone Talenti with the function of hosting the assembly and public commemorations. Only in the 16th century, with Grand Duke Cosimo I did it begin to be decorated with statues.

On the Loggia façade below the parapet are trefolis with allegorical figures of the four cardinal virtues (fortitude, temperance, justice and prudence) by Agnolo Galddi. The enameled blue background is the work of Leonardo, a monk, while the golden stars were painted by Lorenzo de Bicci.

Worcester Cathedral or Cathedral Church of Christ and the Blessed Mary the Virgin, of Worcester to give it its official name, through the parapet on Worcester Bridge.

Built in a stripped back, Gothic style, the former Catholic Church on River Road in the tiny country town of Woodford is a classic example of an unassuming and elegant country church.

Although now used for commercial premises, the former Woodford Catholic Church remains intact and maintains many of its original Gothic features including its parapeted gables, the vertical element of the cross on the skyline and the tracery around the lancet windows. All of these are typical Gothic architectural features. It also still retains its original Gothic style stained glass windows.

Sadly, with no foundation stone or memorial plaque it is impossible to date the church, and I can find no record of it.

Woodford is a very small township in the Western District of Victoria, located nine kilometres north of Warrnambool. The town is home to Woodford Primary School which opened on the first of May 1854. Woodford Post Office opened on 1 January 1854, and closed sometime in 1975. It's population consists of only a few hundred people these days.

The Mausoleum of Aga Khan is the mausoleum of Aga Khan III, Sir Sultan Muhammed Shah, who died in 1957. The mausoleum is located at Aswan along the Nile of Egypt, since Egypt was formerly the centre of power of the Fatimids, an Ismaili Shia dynasty.

The construction of the mausoleum began in 1956 and ended in 1960. The Aga Khan's wife, Begum Om Habibeh Aga Khan, commissioned the construction of the mausoleum, which initially accepted tourists inside; however, the interior was closed off to the public in 1997.

A red rose is laid on the Aga Khan's tomb every day--a practice first started by Begum Om Habibeh Aga Khan.

The mausoleum sits atop a hill along the west bank of the Nile, where it overlooks Aga Khan III and Begum Om Habibeh Aga Khan's villa, the Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan House. The villa was designed by Egyptian architect Hassan Fathy, and it served as a winter home for Aga Khan III, whose will stated that he would be buried near the villa two years after his death.

The Mausoleum of Aga Khan III is built of pink limestone. Crenellated parapets line the outer wall, and an arched doorway on the western side of mausoleum serves as the only entrance to the mausoleum's interior. The eastern side of the mausoleum features a large central dome with arched tracery windows along the octagonal drum. Four miniature domes are located on each corner of the outer wall.

Quran'ic inscriptions adorn the interior tomb of Aga Khan III, which is made of Carrara marble. The mausoleum's floor plan indicates that the tomb faces a mihrab, which is located under the central dome on the eastern wall of the mausoleum. The Simpson Block, located at 115-119 King Street West in downtown Kitchener, was originally built in 1895 to house William Simpson’s furniture factory and retail store. The heritage property has been transformed to house commercial office space while preserving its significant architectural elements. The four-storey, brick-and-beam building features exposed brick walls, open ceilings, and arched windows customized to match the building’s heritage features. 112

The Gallatin Commercial Historic District was nominated to the National Register of Historic Places under criteria A & C for its significance to Gallatin, Tennessee and Sumner County in architecture and commercial history. Gallatin's town plan dates to 1802 when several property owners in Sumner County (established in 1786) were appointed by the state's General Assembly to purchase 40 acres of land, lay out a town for the seat of justice, and superintend the sale of lots and construction of public buildings. Most of the district's buildings were built between 1870 and 1935. Pivotal buildings in the district are the most substantial and ornate buildings located on the corners of the square and a number of good to outstanding examples of various commercial and residential architectural styles scattered throughout. Included in the list of buildings contributing to this district is the Commerce Union Bank building located directly south of the courthouse and public square area. It was built in 1905 and exhibits great architecture of the time including segmental-arched windows, pilasters, and corbeled parapet. This amazing building and the entire district were added to the NRHP on October 23, 1985. All the information above and much more was found on the original documents submitted for listing consideration and can be viewed here:

I visited here on the day of the floods and haven't been back since then , also there is a bridge closure in place as some of the parapet walls are damaged not sure if water or from being struck. Just glad that the bridge is structurally ok .

The water is a lot less today than it was last month and it must be a while since we have had a nice day.

Plus the footpath for the woodland walk is still closed !!

Detail of a roof parapet at the Kampung Kling mosque, one of the oldest mosques in Malacca and Malaysia too.

The Church of St John sub Castro was built in 1839 on the site of an 11th-century Saxon church. It is listed as a Grade II scheduled ancient monument.

There are two churches in Lewes dedicated to St John. This one is situated close to Lewes Castle leading to the reference of 'sub Castro' in its name.

The Historic England website in part provides the following details: Parish church. 1839 by George Cheeseman. Flint with red brick dressings. Plain tiled roofs. West tower, nave with short chancel. Short tower with castellated turrets. Very large lancet side-windows with unarchaeological tracery divided by thin buttresses. West front with central tower projecting slightly with clasping buttresses and recessed sides, the roof hidden by sloping parapets. Central window with two lights, panelled below with rose above and hoodmould, above pointed arched doorway with doubled boarded doors, overlight and hoodmould.

Due to the line being closed near Stonehaven due to a bridge parapet collapsing and recent travel restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic, Scotrail have been running a reduced 2-hourly service to serve Montrose. Here, ScotRail 43129 with 43037 on the rear, is seen passing Inverkeilor with 1A59 1041 Glasgow Queen Street to Montrose Service. This would then form 1T26, the 1423 from Montrose back to Glasgow Queen Street.

The Reculver Towers, which overlook the Wantsum Channel, are more commonly referred to as ‘The Two Sisters’. The towers at the medieval Reculver-based fort appear vastly domineering as they stand tall in the skyline of Herne Bay. Following the Romans conquering Britain under Emperor Claudius in AD 43, the towers were erected on the foundations of a 7th-century Saxon church, which has since become a victim of coastal erosion due to its rather close proximity to the beach. As a result of the aforementioned erosion, the towers now act as a navigation marker for ships.

Throughout both the first and second century, a Roman settlement grew at Reculver, with the likelihood being that the earliest forts may have simply protected an existing presence. Upon the commencement of the third century, the fort itself was built in the shape of a square and stood 7.5 metres high with an enclosed area of 3 hectares. Additionally, the fort was built with a gatehouse in the middle of each side, along with a parapet walk along the high outer walls.

By the time that the fifth century had arrived, the Romans had retreated from Britain. Furthermore, at this point in history, the fort had fallen into disrepair following the Romans departure from Britain in around AD 410. Following the fort becoming unusable, it remained abandoned until AD 669 when it was granted to St Augustine’s Abbey in Canterbury for a new monastery by King Echberht.

Cowbridge Lock, Boston, Lincolnshire

As a day in early November comes to a close, the setting autumn sun breaks through the trees, lighting up the parapet of the old bridge over the River Shiel and the trees along the riverbank.

Between the central nave and the crypt is a marble parapet by Anselmo da Campione (ca. 1150–1210) portraying the Passion of Christ, including the Last Supper.

The painted marble relief shows the kiss of Judas, also known as the Betrayal of Christ, the act with which Judas identified Jesus to the people, who had come to arrest him, according to the Synoptic Gospels.

Parapet figures of the Vienna Ringtheater (Komische Oper)

Four figures by Friedrich Steger made of calcareous sandstone (c. 1873/74)

Now in the Park of Pötzleinsdorf Palace (Pötzleinsdorfer Schlosspark)

The Ringtheater was completed in 1874 and destroyed by a massive fire with officially 384 dead in 1881. The figures represent the four voice types of singing (from left to right: alto, tenor, soprano, bass). They survived the disaster almost undamaged and were soon afterwards acquired by the owner of Pötzleinsdorf Palace and placed in the park.

Pötzleinsdorf is part of Währing, Vienna's 18th district.

Multiple ghost sighs can be seen on the C.D. Smith & Company building. The company was founded in St. Joseph in 1859 with Abram Nave and James McCord as co-partners with Dudley M. Steele and Charles Daniel Smith, the latter of which was the company’s manager. The company was originally a grocery wholesale business, but later became a drug store in 1886. Amazingly, the company remained in the Smith family for 133 years until it was bought by company employees in 1992. C.D. Smith Healthcare was acquired by AmeriSource Health Corporation in 1999. Located In the South Fourth Street Commercial Historic District, National Register #91000124.

In the foreground is the decorative bridge that crosses over the Dell, a low-lying area of grass and flower beds in the model village of Port Sunlight on the Wirral. The tower and spire on the other side of the bridge are part of the Village Social Club.

The Dell was originally a tidal feature of the landscape, hence the bridge, and was only landscaped after the construction of the village had commenced in the 1890s. The bridge was built by Douglas and Fordham and completed in 1894. Historic England describe the Grade II listed structure as made of stone, it is a saddle-back bridge with parabolic arch.. There are flanking buttresses with shaped gablets, and cornice over them. The parapet has coping with roll moulding. The arch has keystones with moulded masks, that to west are of Jacobean man, whilst those to the east are of Restoration man. There is a plaque above the Restoration man with the inscription "ERECTED/ANNO/DOMINI/MDCCCXCIV"; to the west there is a sundial. At the ends of the parapet are canted projections, panelled, those to angles with decorative heads and benches on the inner faces.

The Social Club in the background was originally called the Pavilion and then became the Men's Club. It was built in 1896 by Grayson & Ould.

On Plaza Grande's southwest side stands Quito's cathedral. Although not the most ornate of the Old Town’s churches, it has some fascinating works by artists from the Quito School and houses the tomb of independence hero Antonio José de Sucre. Behind the main altar is a plaque marking where President Gabriel García Moreno died on August 6, 1875; after being slashed with a machete outside the Palacio del Gobierno, he was carried, dying, to the cathedral.

Don’t miss the painting of the Last Supper, with Christ and disciples feasting on cuy (guinea pig), and a nativity painting that features a llama and a horse peering over the newborn Jesus. Admission includes a free guided tour in Spanish and entry to the small cathedral museum. For an extra $3 you can climb up a narrow spiral staircase and onto the cathedral's domed roof; the views are impressive but there is some clambering along narrow ledges involved.

In a deviation from Spanish convention, the Cathedral actually has two main entrances: one at mid-nave that faces the Plaza and the other, with the belltower, at the northwest facade facing Calle Garcia Moreno. The axis has a southeast-northwest orientation due to the local topography: 16th century ravines prevented the main facade from facing the plaza, as is customary. The elaborate arched side-entrance and its semi-circular staircase facing the Plaza were an early 19th-century addition. Known as the Carondelet Arch, this portal is the main interface between Cathedral and square. The relationship is also underlined by a longitudinal stone parapet running the length of the building on that side (and decorated with spheres, pyramids, etc.) which preserves the difference in level between the Cathedral floor and that of the Plaza.
