The so called „Power Plant Cyklon“ (or „Kraftwerk Cyklonkessel“) is a coal fired power plant, which produced energy for the former paper factory. While the paper factory buildings are used now for other purposes, the power plant is abandoned.
The factory dates back to the mid 1880’s. Water and wood which is essential for the paper production and railway links were available there. Originally the paper industry in this valley employed over 5000 workers. The factory was sold in the mid 2000‘s, but was closed a few years after. At this time only around 100 people were still employed there.
The power station includes two boiler house, and two turbine halls. The newer boiler (this image) house features a „KSG Steinmuller Cyklonkessel“ boiler. A “cyclone” mechanism boiler where crushed coal is fed in through a top-load system of buckets and conveyors. The older turbine hall features 1920‘s or 1930‘s Siemens and Steinmuller turbines. The newer turbine hall features a large 1950‘s Siemens turbine, with a 1970‘s control room overlooking it.
Art Nouveau stained glass and marble lining the walls at this stage, at this former paperfactory give a classy character.
Glas-in-lood in Jugendstil en marmeren bekleding van de wanden bij deze trap, geven de voormalige papierfabriek een chique karakter.
