PaperCollage photos on Flickr

This piece is based on a collage that I originally did a few years ago for an art class that I took at a local community college. (See the entry I wrote on March 8, 2010 for more details.)

I scanned the original into a computer then imported it into Photoshop. The original was in black, white, and grey so the first thing I did was to colorize it. I then shrunk the image so it would fit on a tiny 2.5 inch (6 cm) canvas.

After I printed it out, I used the suggestions in Nancy Reyner’s book Acrylic Revolution to glue the printout to the canvas using an acrylic gel. Afterwards I spreaded a layer of medium on top of it. Then I spreaded a layer of acrylic gel and I used brushes and a pallette knife to carve textures into the soft gel before it hardened. Then I sealed the work with a layer of varnish.
