MOUNT RAINIER, CAPTURED ON A SMOKEY (WILD FIRES) AND HAZY DAY FROM MOUNT WALKER IN THE OLYMPIC NATIONAL FOREST, 150 MILES TO THE NORTHWEST.

SEATTLE (50 MILES FROM THIS VIEWPOINT) IS UNSEEN, BUT IS LOCATED ON PUGET SOUND BETWEEN THESE MOUNTAIN TOPS. I AM TOLD THAT YOU CAN SEE THE SPACE NEEDLE ON A CLEAR DAY.

Minerva Terrace is the primary feature of the Mammoth Hot Springs Area. It goes through cycles of activity where there may be no water at all to such large travertine deposits that it covers the boardwalk. The park actually installed a moveable boardwalk just in case.

Chinese Gardens at the Botanical Gardens are beautiful, full of colorful flowers, pavilions, ponds and waterfalls. Well worth a visit.

The legend of Dead Horse Point states that around the turn of the century the point was used as a corral for wild mustangs roaming the mesa top. Cowboys herded them across the narrow neck of land and onto the point. The neck was then fenced off with branches and brush. One time, for some unknown reason, horses were left corralled on the waterless point where they died of thirst within view of the Colorado River 2,000 feet below. A closer look at the canyon floor reveals the ghostly outline of the horses left behind.
