People with a local knowledge say they haven't seen those hills so green in many years. And these pinky flowers, too. A truly rare show.
I was said Bob Hope used to live in a house with a flat-domed roof on top of the residential area on the slopes.

The view from the top of the tram on a chilly, late fall afternoon- Cathedral City is in the center of the picture, with Palm Springs near the bottom and Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert closer to the horizon.
This was the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and if you enlarge the picture to "Original" size and look closely you will see the string of HUNDREDS of cars heading back home to LA and parts west (right to left in the picture) on the 10 freeway which bisects the picture.
We were glad we were staying for one more day!!!
The cholla (pronounced choy-a) is perhaps the most feared and hated cacti in the southwest desert. If you brush up against one, you will know why.
The plant has pads that separate easily from the main stem. The spines easily attach to your clothing, your skin, your shoes. Since the plant is covered with spines, it's difficult to grab and dislodge the pad that has found a new home with you.
well, I really wasn't that thrilled with the actual downtown area of Palm Springs. It was nice to wander through for one evening and eat dinner but if I ever went back I'd give it a miss, I prefer the more "low rent" neighbourhoods where the people live that serve the wealthy residents.
