Walking thru an alley in Vieux, Nice. A view of the clocktower at the Rusca Palace built in 1775 as a military barracks. It's now the Palais De Justice. Though the bell tower resembles a church I haven't read where it was ever a church. I believe it was more symbolic. #CôteD'Azur #VieuxNice #France #alley #RuscaPalace #1775 #ClockTower #OldTownNice #PalaisRusca

Vieux-Nice | Place du Palais de Justice
This building was built to house a military barracks - Square Saint-Dominique (now Place du Palais de Justice) was used as Place d'Armes.
It retained this purpose until the 1990s and was converted into an annex of the Courthouse it faces: it now houses the Tribunal d'Instance de Nice.

The first clock tower was built in the 15th century at the foot of the Castle Hill, against former Palazzo Comunale. It was destroyed during the assault of 1543, rebuilt (and enhanced) in 1565 and again demolished in 1704 following the 1691 assault.
The decision was finally taken to transfer it to the St. Dominic (now Place du Palais de Justice): the new clock tower, known as Tower Rusca, was thus completed in 1718.
