On our excursion through the north of Sri Lanka we saw many such dead palm trees in swamp areas. I imagine that the palm trees have drowned after the water level has risen.

A northern mockingbird photographed in my front yard in a palm tree by my picture window. The bird sang for me for three consecutive days. The shot was taken in partial shade.
The northern mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) is the only mockingbird commonly found in North America. This bird is mainly a permanent resident, but northern birds may move south during harsh weather.
The northern mockingbird is known for its mimicking ability, as reflected by the meaning of its scientific name, "many-tongued mimic".
The northern mockingbird is an omnivore. It eats both insects and fruits. It is often found in open areas and forest edges but forages in grassy land.
The northern mockingbird is listed as of Least Concern according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). – Wikipedia

The first columns of history.
The forty pillars of the corridor are 'wrapped columns', designed to look like stems of palm trees or papyrus. The walls have been restored, but the ceiling is made of modern concrete. After the entrance, there is a large and false door of Ka (present spirit), which stands ajar - notice the hinge close to the ground. There were fourteen such doors in the complex, made of wood in other ages, but now, for the first time, it is carved in stone and painted to look like wood. For them, Pharaoh's Ka could move when he wanted to.

From the archives . . . taken from the hotel balcony in Poipu, Kauai, on a 2011 visit to Hawaii. The beach in the foreground is largely peppered with lava rocks and slabs.
Smile on Saturday: "Tree Silhouettes"
The classic California palm tree. I am always amused that these trees are planted in the central valley. I associate them with Los Angeles city street decorations.
Rabindranath Tagore
Palm Tree
Palm-tree: single-legged giant,
topping other trees,
peering at the firmament —
It longs to pierce the black cloud-ceiling
and fly away, away,
if only it had wings.
The tree seems to express its wish
in the tossing of its head:
its fronds heave and swish—
It thinks, Maybe my leaves are feathers,
and nothing stops me now
from rising on their flutter.
All day the fronds the windblown tree
soar and flap and shudder
as though it thinks it can fly,
As though it wanders in the skies,
travelling who knows where,
wheeling past the stars —
And then as soon as the wind dies down,
the fronds subside, subside:
the mind of the tree returns.
To earth, recalls that earth is its mother:
and then it likes once more
its earthly corner.
I wish you a passionate weekend, my friends!
Taken yesterday during Ebersberg "Volksfest" (kermis) - of course away from the crowd on a nice hill. Last year I was there alone with my tripod - this year a handful photographers had the same idea :-)
With a bit wind as you can see...
