at dusk

light softens.

buildings glow

more ethereal,

rooftop towers

and chimneys

fade as neon

paints streets

as people move

ghostly along

sidewalks from

work to home

as sirens wail

as cars pass

and a muffled

hum as night

comes on

seems to be

the city singing

itself to sleep

When we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: "Free at last! Free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

A "Painting" of a Print of a Painting ....

Apps: Leonardo, iColorama

Someone was saying

how the sun turned

the sand the gold

of wheat in autumn

and waves kept

sifting up and down

the beach and

someone was saying

the wind carried

the sea far inland

and died down

and came back

and scoured the shells

that were empty

like porcelain

sculptures, and

someone was saying

look what that couple

is doing in public

and someone

was swimming

far out where

people drown

or sharp fins might appear

and someone napped

under the red umbrella

and no one said anything

for a long time

A painter's sky over Lincoln at sunset this evening :)

One of a series of photos of a beautiful sunset - taken over a short period on the evening of Friday 13th August 2021. I zoomed in to the distant West Burton Power Station located on the Nottinghamshire coal fields.

"The West Burton power stations are a pair of power stations on the River Trent, near Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England. West Burton A was a coal-fired power station, one of the Hinton Heavies which was commissioned in 1966 and operated until 2023. West Burton B on the other hand, is a combined cycle gas turbine power station, commissioned in 2013. West Burton A is owned by EDF Energy, while West Burton B is owned and operated by Totalenergies.

The site is the farthest north of what was a series of power stations in the Trent valley, being 5.6 kilometres (3.5 mi) downstream of the now-closed Cottam power stations. As of September 2022, it was one of only three coal-fired power stations left in the UK and was required to close before 2024, with generation on two units initially planned to cease on 30 September 2022.

Due to the volatile energy market associated with the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the United Kingdom Government agreed with plant owners EDF Energy that the remaining two generating units would be available for use for 6 months beyond the 30 September 2022 closure date, in order to provide supplies over the winter period. The plant ended generation on 31 March 2023."

I was looking over Lincoln Edge and contemplating the simple beauty of the sky. The location is on the west facing escarpment known locally as Lincoln Edge, in the Cathedral city of Lincoln. The viewpoint gives a clear view of west Lincolnshire and the Nottinghamshire plain. Their were a myriad of subtle colour changes over a very short period of time :)
