My footstool is shedding cigarette butts.
I bought the footstool probably 20 or so years ago and assembled it from a kit, screwing legs into the already-stuffed and sealed cushion. It's since become one of our cat Daisy's many makeover projects, because nothing spells a productive day for her like ripping something into little shreds.
In her diligent footstool excavations, Daisy has liberated a handful of unused butts, sans tobacco and nicotine. But I'm allergic to cigarette smoke and have always loathed the things. Finding this kind of stuffing material irks me, not in and of itself but because of its associations. My mother smoked until her heart attack in 1969, and I drove her nuts when I was a kid by making off with her Kents, ripping each cigarette in half, and then dousing the remains in water for good measure before tossing the mess into the trash. My classmates in high school teased me because my reaction to "cigs" was that of a vampire to a cross -- except for the one in the Yiddish joke who quipped, "Oy, have you got the wrong vampire!"
I had good reason. Put me in a smoke-filled room and my eyes water. In a few minutes I'm on the verge of passing out because I can't breathe. I can better tolerate cigar smoke, or pipe smoke. I can better tolerate pot smoke. Long before my mother's heart attack, cigarettes and I were mortal enemies.
Which makes those innocent, untainted butts an affront to my tender sensibilities.

I needed some pictures of packing materials for a blog entry I'm working on. And it's an interesting contrast with all the heavy metal surrounding these pictures.

I bought a piece of glass on the web. It was shipped in a box padded with cut cardboard boxes. The glass arrived intact and the seller made good use of their old boxes.
111. Upcycled in 120 pictures in 2020
I have unsealed the box, but haven't removed anything yet. Oddly, the packing material here had gotten adhered to the cleartape holding the box closed, and had to be pried loose when I lifted the top folds of the box.
Inspired to get off my butt and paint by Mary Todd Beam, I am in love with this collage.
Packing material, cereal box, drywall tape, bits of old projects, masking tape, atlas page, trash, lots of paint and an antique brass stencil.
Check out the other sizes for more detail.

April, 2008. "Loose"
Added to the Macro Monday Group, for the FAKE Theme.... Since I'm pretty sure this substance doesn't occur naturally anywhere in nature. (Which would make it NATURAL. Duh.)

Get yer Peanuts! Get yer Peanuts! Popcorn, Soft Drinks! Ice Cold Beer!!
Donuts?
Nah! We don't serve Donuts here!
Mail-order cheeses came packed in crinkled paper with a few colorfully-wrapped candies tossed in. It's a small thing, but it made unpacking the box a lot of fun.

Until one eventful day the roof opened up! And Red Hob ran from the boxes with sweet dreams of finding this magic holiday.

100% Reciclable packaging material
Reminds me of some kind of papercraft thing I made in elementary school...
Or another ton of inflated packaging material with my Amazon order. Luckily it recycles.
This picture is misleading. I was not in a bag but it's a band of bubble wrap packing material. In other words, not smothering myself.
