I arrived at the site to discover I hadn't packed my tripod in the car boot. I can't handle a 500mm f4 lens unsupported for any length of time, so that was a huge negative at the start of the day having driven the 40 miles from Nottingham. The consequence was that of 300 plus shots taken all were to a greater, or lesser degree soft and largely scrap, which was a shame, as I thought I'd otherwise got a range of nice clean shots of these lovely little birds. This was one of the slightly more presentable ones. I haven't had much joy with Whinchats over the 6 years I've been photographing birds - the curse of the Whinchat strikes again!
Many thanks to Stuart Allen for the locational advice, it was spot on. Snag was a week had gone by and that was something else I omitted to double check this morning!
Thank you for your comments and faves,

Cannot wait to explore my new region.

I've never seen Suds this crowded. It wasn't even open but they did have free drinks and chips. Too bad I didn't have any cash for a donation.
Probably one of the most photographed, most tourist packed and most overrated locations in Norway, in my opinion.
We were leaving Lofoten when I took this picture. It was a brilliant sunset and I hadn't yet been able to take that "classic" Lofoten picture. When I saw this view here I just stopped and took some pictures, because OF COURSE I need to have something. I think it turned out very well.
My thoughts about Lofoten, well, it's not ideal for travelers who want to sleep in tents. Do yourself a favor and go there with an RV or something like that. Be prepared to not find any parking places, especially in Henningsvær for example. Reine was also full of people and we only found a free parking spot after six in the evening. Other people were parking along the main road but I wasn't brave like them. I already got stuck once on this trip.
I have to say I prefer southern Norway with its majestic fjords and valleys to Lofoten, but Lofoten definitely has a unique look and so, so many bridges.

This is what a legitimate out of control wildfire looks like. The Dixie Fire in northern California is now the largest wildfire in recorded California history. It has been burning for 5 weeks and has destroyed towns, villages, farms and ranches totaling almost 1 million acres.
We have voluntarily evacuated our home twice in the past week, and are currently awaiting instructions from the civil authorities. Haven't been able to post any pics for some time as we have packed and moved so many times, we're completely exhausted and just this evening was even able to plug in my computer in a safe place.
Much to my amazement, whilst pecking at breakfast, the bread flew up in the air and landed on its back.
No camera handy! I ran to get the camera and the bread was still in place whilst it walked about looking for it. Seconds later, it fell off and was eaten!
Against the backdrop of hilly roads and tightly-packed terrace houses glinting in the wintry sun, a 2-car 'Pacer', unit 142005, leaves Accrington in Lancashire bound for Colne with a Northern service from Preston.
On the skyline can be seen Jubilee Tower, which sits atop Darwen Hill. Completed in 1898 the tower was built to commemorate both Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, as well as a victory won by local folk granting them the right of access to the surrounding moors.
A shot that was discovered recently while clearing out old unused images. I figured this one still had some interest value.

VEGAS BLOOD MOON/LUNAR ECLIPSE
It was overcast from where I started on Whitney Mesa Dr. so packed up and left but as I was driving by Ethel M's it was clear so I pulled over and finished up there. Some of the sequence is missing because the moon was behind the clouds. =(
On the occasion of the first snow we checked out the lakes at the top of Mount Hachimantai. At the top we saw this chap boiling up water for his pot noodles
"Let your boat of life be light, packed with only what you need - a homely home and simple pleasures, one or two friends, worth the name, someone to love and someone to love you, a cat, a dog, and a pipe or two, enough to eat and enough to wear, and a little more than enough to drink; for thirst is a dangerous thing." - Jerome K. Velddrif or Velddrift is a coastal fishing town in the Bergrivier Local Municipality, Western Cape, South Africa. It is located on the estuary where the Berg River flows into St. Helena Bay.
The name Velddrif is derived from a local farmer, Theunis Smit, who took his stock through a drift in the field (Afrikaans: veld), to find grazing across the river. In 1899, a pont (pontoon ferry) was built to cross the Berg River.
The penultimate shot before I packed away and found refuge in the car as the temperature was dropping. It was incredible seeing the sky clearing and getting beautiful purples and reds and oranges out of nowhere on an evening that looked dreich and uneventful. Definitely a location that I will be going back as there are many more shots to be taken and a lesson that I keep forgetting. Even if it doesn’t look promising and the forecast is bad go out, you don’t know what will happen. Special thanks to my friend for patiently waiting for one more click, or 10...

Although this is what it looked like near the house a few weeks ago, we now have had hurricane strength winds this morning. Doesn't make for good driving which is what I have to do.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
I'm still trying to catch up. I haven't had time to even post in the invited groups.
Thanks everyone!
I deliberately packed this photo of the rain-soaked blade of grass for this week because the seminar I am taking part in is about my trainer and coaching work.
And both in this activity and here in the seminar, building and crossing bridges is an essential, one could almost say crucial, component.
Be it the bridge to the trainer or between the participants, from one topic to the next or from the seminar room to the real world, they meet and occupy me here all day long.
Even though I was already aware of this before I arrived (otherwise I didn’t have the photo with me today), this awareness has grown quite a bit over the course of this week.
What applies to me (and not only here), of course also applies equally to each of you. Just take a look and see which bridges are close to your heart. Maybe you’ll find one or two that deserve some attention.

A day in the life. Bags filled, back to the house. Street characteristics typical for French Provence region. Vaison-la-Romaine, France.

The salesforce camera was showing a nice soft layer of fog coming in under the bridge at 4am so I packed up my gear and headed over to Battery Spencer.
It is hard to take a bad shot here.
