Yesterday, a trolley from the Rockhill Trolley Museum visited Williams Grove (near Mechanicsburg, PA). Its visit will last 9 days. It ran on the tracks that the Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association’s PRR 0-6-0 famously runs on, and it used a generator car generously loaned by the Middletown and Hummelstown Railroad. The M&H owner (Wendell Dillinger) was very into trolleys himself.
This marked the first time since 1938 that an electric trolley operated in Cumberland County. Perhaps this is a view of things to come. [I will make no further comment on the subject]
My wife was my "wheelman" for a few pacing shots. This was the last frame, and I think it is the best. A Ford Model T behind us wasn't happy with our slow pace and kept using its horn. I have to wonder how many times that Ford has been the slow car and upset other drivers.
This particular trolley was built in Porto, Portugal, in 1929 and is basically a copy of a Brill trolley built in the USA. The design is often called a "Toonerville Trolley." The crews in Portugal had been working on the American trolleys so much that they thought they could make their own - so they did.
I find it interesting that the trolley has three separate braking systems: air brakes, hand brakes, and dynamic brakes.

Hagerstown bound 38Q travels south along US Route 11 near Marion, PA. A great job by Denny Myers in the driver's seat and some tips from Jim Stanton.
I don't know how I managed to get this shot without being told off! A pacer at Skipton probably on a Morecombe-Leeds. I don't recall any other shots in this livery. Aug 87.
With the Bozeman Turn on the drawbar, MRL 355 glides into Livingston on MRL's 2nd Sub. The big, 20 cylinder EMD would ease its train into the yard to wait for a helper set to assist over Bozeman Pass.

il Cimitero Austro- Ungarico di Vigo di Fassa, che ospita 663 soldati, si trova a pochi km dalla linea che marco' il confine ( ed il fronte ) durante la Grande Guerra.
I numerosi caduti che si registrarono in questo difficile tratto del fronte imposero la costruzione di un cimitero di guerra. Questo venne allestito nel 1916 , nei pressi di un bosco, non lontano dall' antica chiesa gotica di Santa Giuliana, fuori dal centro abitato.
I lavori furono effettuati dalla 179° compagnia di fanteria e dai prigionieri Russi.
Centinaia furono i soldati che vennero sepolti qui, sotto croci di legno. Poi queste si deteriorarono e vennero sostituite con le croci austriache negli anni '90.
È commovente vedere questa collina costellata di croci, nel silenzio.
Mi ero commossa a leggere i nomi, tutti di origine tedesca. Immaginavo dei giovani pieni di vita, di speranze, colpiti a morte e poi sepolti sotto questa terra.
L' assurdità della guerra, che purtroppo si ripete, continua a ripetersi, portando morte e rovina al mondo intero.
Oggi, 21 settembre, è la Giornata internazionale della Pace, istituita nel 1981 dall 'Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite.
Dubito che si spegnerà l'odio, che si userà la ragione per arrivare a delle trattative nella guerra Ucraina.
I trafficanti d'armi, i militari corrotti devono ancora guadagnarci un bel po'. Si continuerà il massacro fino alla distruzione totale dell'Ucraina, temo, finché non ci sarà più carne umana da buttare al macello. Poi forse si vedrà .
Rimarranno tante croci, tanto silenzio.
E in questo pazzo mondo continuano a esplodere focolai di violenza e conflitti .

With only a few miles left to the El Segundo mine, Escalante Western's trio of SD40s are roaring right along with their empty train. Despite not only the very brief crash course in pacing a train, but also having a very small window of opportunity where the tracks are close enough to the highway with no obstructions, I think my wife did a pretty decent driving job to make this shot happen!
CSX I026-03 with CSX 1982, the newest revealed CSX heritage scheme, painted in the SBD livery. With hot stacks bound for Bedford Park, IL they take no time as they race for KY/TN state line- 7/4/23.
Buffalo & Pittsburgh train SIBF (Salamanca to Buffalo) is headed north through Chaffee in the late evening hours as we pace the train along highway 16 and snag some pan shots.
What you don't see, when you watch show jumping on TV, is the jockeys all pacing round the arena wearing their riding gear to prepare for the competition. It is a surreal sight - like a live Magritte painting... At the Royal Windsor Horse show.
A 1958 Edsel Pacer arrives at the Cars & Coffee event, to the pleasure and amusement of many. It appears that all three of these gents have specific thoughts and memories related to the Edsels.
Having only ever known city living in my nearly 60 years, I value times when I can get away to the country or the coast for a break. Alongside the slower pace of life, the fresher air and a chance to take in many surprising moments, the dark skies and quiet roads are some of my favourite reasons to escape. A recent south coast sojourn served up several such serene stops. This flat and straight section of road near Bodalla, Australia, has so little traffic on it at night that spending long periods standing in the middle of the road–or lying on it as I’ve done at least once before–to take photos is something you can almost take for granted.
The Milky Way’s core region had risen in the southeastern sky shortly before I arrived, and the distorted view through my camera’s fisheye lens makes our galaxy’s band of stars seem to arch across the sky and the bitumen. The Large Magellanic Cloud galaxy is almost centred in the scene, to the right of the row of poplars planted next to the road. I was fortunate to have cloudless heavens for five of the eight nights I was in the area, and on every one of those nights, the sky’s predominant colour was the subtle green generated by atmospheric airglow. I couldn’t see the electrical wires hanging overhead, showing as black scores on that green sky in my photo. As is often the case, though, perfection is elusive, and the wires’ presence in the shot isn’t too distracting.
Shot as a single frame, this night sky photo was taken with my Canon EOS 6D Mk II camera and a Samyang 8mm f/3.5 fisheye lens @ f/5.6, using an exposure time of 45 seconds @ ISO 12800.

Let's celebrate Pacer travel in West Yorkshire, on a damp November Saturday night when the timetable looks to have gone to pot with delays and cancellations, Northern Pacer 142026 gets underway from Woodlesford, 37 minutes late with the Daily return Leeds to Goole. A local pub bonfire kindly provided the pyrotechnic display.

Pacing the steamer Edward L. Ryerson getting a moving pan shot in the Welland canal between Pt. Colborne and Allanburg - yep she was moving right along here - May 24. 2007.
BNSF Z-SSECHC paces the bluffs of the Mississippi River near Maiden Rock, Wisconsin with one of the few PTC-equipped ex-BN SD70MACs leading. The town of Maiden Rock can be seen in the distance; I am standing on the actual Maiden Rock bluff which is located near the town of Stockholm.
The Class 142 "Pacer" units are now in their sunset years and withdrawal from service is fast approaching, and not before time most will advocate. The 2D62 19:18 Darlington to Saltburn service approaches Middlesbrough station on 16th September 2019.
