Philadelphia Water Commissioner Howard Neukrug and School District of Philadelphia Superintendent William Hite joined Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Chief of Staff Patrick Morgan for the release of PWD’s Transforming Philadelphia’s Schoolyards, a new 44-page design guide made with the help of the Community Design Collaborative that acts as a toolkit for schools and communities working to enhance schools with green stormwater infrastructure.
A sold-out crowd came to the Center for Architecture in Center City on May to pick up a copy of the guide and hear firsthand stories of successful school greening projects from Lea Elementry’s Julie Scott, Cook-Wissahickon Elementary’s Jeane Ortiz, and Greenfield Elementary’s Lisa Armstrong.
The forum was moderated by Mami Hara, Chief of Staff at Philadelphia Water.

PWD 548 and Cb 113 had a sole turn on the passenger train during the course of the Railfan's Day, seen here having coupled up with Ec 7 still on the back (but will not be attached for the steam engine's run down the line). The Fowler-built PWD 548 was the smallest loco in action over the weekend, but sure can pull. At the time, Oamaru Steam & Rail wanted a 2nd loco but felt their own sister loco to PWD 548 was too small and underpowered to haul trains on their line. Wanting to demonstrate that the wee Fowlers can pull quite a lot, some of us convinced the driver of the Cb to leave his loco out of gear for the trip - meaning not only would the trip be faster but the Fowler would have all the weight to itself. It pulled the load quite happily, albeit had a bit of a slippery start! Easter at Ferrymead, 22nd March 2008

Each spring, this new PWD tradition gives us the chance to gather with our teammates, families, and the community, to remember the fellow PWD employees we've lost since this time last year. The inaugural dedication was held in Spring 2013.

John Lewis was the design-engineer, effectively the designer of the Ord River Diversion Dam. In the early 1960s John Leis was in charge of a PWD survey of Tidal Power along the Kimberley coast from King Sound to the Cambridge Gulf. A paper was published by the Institute of Engineers Australia.

Our first volunteer cleanup of 2017 with United By Blue had a great turnout.
Held March 7, the effort targeted Philadelphia Parks and Recreation’s Bartram's Garden site. This was the eighth year that United by Blue, a Philadelphia-based apparel company dedicated to clean water, held a waterfront cleanup at Bartram’s.
Volunteers from the Schuylkill Action Network, Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory, North Philadelphia’s Mastery Prep Charter School and others gathered nearly 2,000 pounds of litter from the Schuylkill River shoreline in just two hours.
Using heavy equipment, workers from PWD's Waterways Restoration Team also gathered roughly 4,000 additional pounds of trash and tires that had been dumped on a path leading to the river.
