I was hearing a loud rustling noise coming from the reeds at one end of our local lake, so I aimed the camera in hope of finding something exciting emerging. Turned out to be this lovely bright Purple Swamp Hen who popped its head up obligingly.
This was taken in late January at North Berwick. Purple Sandpipers are almost exclusively found on rocky shorelines, not only natural but often on harbours and breakwaters as well. Anywhere there is some seaweed for them to forage through
It wouldn't be Fantasy Faire without making at least one new friend.
Normally, in Second Life, I spend my time hovering on my sky platform or in my garden taking pictures. I enjoy the peaceful times in my own company, letting creativity flow and the worries and responsibilities of real life drift away for a while.
But, when Fantasy Faire hits, I always look forward to meeting like minded, fantasy loving people. I love people watching and appreciating the creativity that others put into their fantasy characters and always try to say hello and express my appreciation of their efforts. If I come away with a new friend or two, thats a bonus.
This is PurpDerp! We met at the Pixiedust Region last weekend where I was working on a picture. We spent some time talking and sharing and exploring together. We then worked on this picture at the Yuum Baalal Grotto region together! Such fun!
Fantasy Faire really is the best time in Second Life, for so many reasons ♥

Experimenting with some more post-processing techniques. All the photos I see people sharing here look so good; I need to push myself to do more with mine.

Rotated fibers first, lens cap then the backlit silhouette to finish.

The time for the 381's retirement is getting close. Still, JR West will continue to operate a small fleet of "heritage" trains until the end. In addition to the standard red and cream, they operate the JNR, recently repainted "Southern" Green, yellow and white, and probably their most unique color, purple, used specifically for their Super Yakumo limited express trains.
The purple Super Yakumo livery was first applied in 1994 and was discontinued in 2006. JR West brought back the paint scheme in 2022, the first in the "heritage" fleet. It is nicknamed the Super Yakumo due to its green class observation car on the end of the consist. Like its heritage fleet, the Super Yakumo makes 2 round trips a day between Okayama and Izumo. I haven't shot these purple trains much, but I like the color. It's certainly different!
