I believe that this was the last Daimler Fleetline delivered to Coventry Transport (although not the last numerically, that was 142).

Seen here in Pool Meadow awaiting its driver, it is now West Midlands PTE 1125 (PDU 125M), an East Lancs bodied Daimler Fleetline, originally Coventry Transport `125.

Henry Street, Glossop is the location for Greater Manchester PTE Park Royal bodied Leyland Titan 4001 (ANE 1T). Still in original livery in 1984, I suspect the registration would be worth a lot now.

SELNEC PTE (Central), Leyland Titan PD2, Metro Cammell H36/28F No 3128 JRJ 282E is pictured here alongside Daimler CVG6, Metro Cammell H37/28R No 4005 TRJ 116 as they awaited their next turn of duty at Victoria Bus Station, Salford.

The Daimler CVG6 still retained its original livery with the Salford City Transport fleetname despite the application of its new PTE fleet number. (Date Unknown).

SELNEC PTE (Central), Leyland Titan PD2, Metro Cammell H36/28F No 3126 JRJ 280E is pictured here working a 63 service from Heaton Park to Chorlton.

The PD2 had a transfer from Salford's Frederick Road depot to Manchester's Queen Road depot in the autumn of 1972, and was on Cross Street approaching Albert Square, Manchester, when this shot was taken. 7th August 1973. (Photo Courtesy of K Walker).

The past Saturday saw 8534 recreate the now withdrawn route 517. Once a gem of the Hebble network, in years gone by it ran from Leeds, through Halifax and onto Burnley via BlackShaw Head. Hebble however, avoided running through Heptonstall village.

Little changed for many years however, Metro PTE and Yorkshire Rider made many a revision. The route was renumbered from 15 through to 517 and the service frequency reduced. Journeys now also ran through Heptonstall and curtailed at Halifax.

The 517 was a popular allocation for Halifax's 85** batch of glorious Leopards.

8534 became a regular if on loan from Todmorden. Numerous tales from drivers both past & present recall the Leopard's catching the Volvo B10's, especially on long climbs such as up to Blackstone Edge on the 527/8 services.

This shot is one I've being wanting to recreate for a while and so the opportunity could not be missed. Very little has changed since RWU 534R last came through.

West Midlands PTE were the only passenger transport executive in the UK to operate trolleybuses. The trolleybus system had been inherited from the erstwhile Walsall Corporation Transport Department, whose assets and operating network had been acquired under the 1968 Transport Act, enacted on 1st October 1969.

Under WMPTE ownership, the trolleybus system lasted just 12-months. The trolleybuses did not feature in the PTE's future plans for public transport in the West Midlands region, and were seen as an outdated encumbrance.

By early 1970, surplus motor buses from other West Midlands garages were drafted into Walsall. These vehicles were used to provide replacement journeys on trolleybus routes at certain times, readying the public for the change-over.

As it became more widely known that the PTE intended to rid Walsall of its trolleybuses, the town became a focal point for enthusiasts to descend upon, recording to film the trolleys last days of service.

The end came on the 3rd October 1970, when the remaining trolleybuses bid farewell to the town. Special last-day services were laid on for locals and enthusiasts alike. The final journey was undertaken by trolleybus 872 in the evening, taking civic officials on a last sentimental journey before the power was turned off. Today, trolleybus 872 resides at the Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft in South Yorkshire.

The image shows trolleybus 869, one of the Willowbrook bodied Sunbeam F4s at the back of the ABC Savoy cinema on Shaw Street in July 1970. This was the terminal point for the 33 service to Cavendish Road (via the The Beechdale housing estate). The bus is looking very work-worn and neglected under PTE ownership. Whilst all motor buses in the newly created PTE fleet carried the 'WM - West Mildands' logos, the trolleybuses never did.
