Shortly after you reach the Wells Cove overlook (where the view of the cove is mostly obstructed by the lush understory), the trail becomes entangled in tree roots, with each puddle between the roots of differing unknown depths, slowing your walking pace considerably. Every now and then there's a bit of clear trail, or an elevated wooden section of trail, but much of the trail after Wells Cove is entangled in roots. Cape Lookout State Park, Oregon i6s+10932

Just as the train returned, the sun peaked thru an opening in the clouds; minutes before and after this the bottom half of this scene was all in shadow again. Holiday Express runs weekends thru December 16, Portland, OR O3336,65

Thanks to an invite from John Behrends I found myself on the trail to Coffin Mountain, Willamette National Forest, OR O8777

After returning from sunset at the Pinnacle Peak Saddle went back out the short trail towards the edge of Reflection Lake to see how the Persimmon Mushroom might look in the moonlight and discovered it has a surprising night life (compare with daytime photo in first comment below). Anything that makes the ground vibrate (e.g. footsteps) causes it to light up and if they are touched emit a pungent psychedelic odor, or was it the other way around?
