Last photos of the Waverley during one of its visits to the city, one in colour and one in black and white.
Here she is, sailing past Gosport.
On this day in 1971 the Erskine Bridge was opened by HRH Princess Anne.
In 2015 I captured this shot of the iconic paddle steamer PS Waverley as she passed under the Erskine Bridge in one of her regular Clyde cruises. She was due to return to operation this summer after essential repairs to her boilers.

What to do when you have a spare PS type B10M sitting around? Well, you chop a bit off here, weld a panel in here, relocate the fuel tanks, add some weight to the back do various other jobs that no sane person would dream of doing and then you have a unique recovery vehicle.
New to Cumberland and latterly with Merseyside within the Stagecoach group, K748DAO is now Howards Travel's wrecker. All the work has been done in house by the owners Father and incorporates a kitchen and seating area, TV/DVD player as well as a work station for on the road repairs. What started out as a project is now reality, and boy does it look good!

Looking rather neglected and unloved is PS Wingfield Castle, Hartlepool Docks, 20th February 2019. Launched on the 24th September 24th 1934 it was built for the London and North Eastern Railway at Hartlepool by William Gray, for service on the Hull - New Holland ferry service. It was one of three paddler steamers maintaining a year-round service for passengers, cars, and cargo until withdrawn in 1974 following the opening of the Humber Suspension Bridge. Sold a number of times and finally lying derelict in Swansea for a number of years until purchased by Hartlepool Borough Council and returned to Hartlepool in June 1986. Restored as a museum ship it was extensively refurbished again in 2006/07 with the saloon areas converted for use for educational seminars, corporate events etc. However little seems to have been done in recent years to maintain the vessel and it appears to be decaying at an ever faster rate.
The Medway Queen takes shape in the Albion Dock, Bristol. - The new keel and bulkheads are being riveted there - the first fully riveted ship for 50 years!
Here a view looking into the dry dock basin with the Medway Queen in the foreground.
PS Waverley is the last seagoing passenger carrying paddle steamer in the world. Built in 1946, she sailed from Craigendoran on the Firth of Clyde to Arrochar on Loch Long until 1973. Bought by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society (PSPS), she has been restored to her 1947 appearance and now operates passenger excursions around the British coast.
